Waterfalls have always fascinated people. From their majestic beauty and power to the daredevils that attempt to go over them. In this class, we will learn about Niagara Falls, using the "Where Is Niagara Falls?" book by Megan Stine as a basis for our studies. It is not required to have this book for class, but some learners may find it useful to read along with each lesson. In this 7 week class, we will learn: Class 1 - Geography - How were the falls made? What is the land around it like? Class 2 - History of different groups of Indigenous Peoples who lived near the falls. Class 3 - Who were the first Europeans to see the falls? Who bought Goat Island and built the town? Class 4 - Who tried building a bridge over the falls and why did they fail? How did it connect the U.S. and Canada? Class 5 - Who were some of the people who tried to walk over the falls on a tightrope or go over in a barrel and why did they do it? Class 6 - Waterwheels, Tesla, and Edison - using the falls for power and the founding of the Niagara Falls Hydraulic Power and Manufacturing Company Class 7 - A look at different tourist draws to the falls and different trivia. We will play a Kahoot trivia game to close out the class.
