Nivel Intermediate
(Recommended to take this after Level #1 Sleeping Dragon) This class is designed for learners who already know the very basics of working with polymer clay. Our Dragons may hold an object of choice. Some ideas are: Glass marble or Glass Bead, create a small clay dragon egg, a small stone, gemstone, or shell. All of those items can be safely baked along with your dragon. In this class, we will work together to learn the steps needed to create each portion of our standing Dragons. Different camera views will be used to show each step of the way. We will condition, cut, roll and form our pieces. Then we will assemble our body parts and get them prepared to be baked after class is over. The supplies are listed below and are necessary to complete the project. Students will first design, then personalize their Dragons as the basic steps and proportions are learned. I will go over how to lacquer the clay after baking if the students want a professional, glossy finished look. **Polymer clay requires baking according to the package direction. (Generally ~275 °F, depending on your brand of clay). You may do this after class. Parental help is necessary. Supplies: Polymer Bake Clay (any brand you prefer. I like to use Sculpey III). *In total, approximately 2oz. is plenty!* Basic Sculpting tools, smoothing tool, dotting tool (for eye sockets) 1/2 wooden toothpick to attach head to body A Baking sheet (covered with parchment works best) A cutting tool (can be a clay knife, anything that you are comfortable with using) A NON-STICK surface to work on A small rolling pin or paintbrush handle or anything smooth to roll out small pieces of clay. A bit of Aluminum Foil Variety of colors of polymer clay (whatever colors you want for your dragon). At least one main color and an accent color. Note: Translucent clay can be used for clear wings/fins OPTIONAL: Small/Medium GLASS beads/crystals for eyes (4.0 size works nicely). Larger glass bead, marble or gemstone for holding (as in samples) Clear Mod Podge or Gloss glaze for after baking (I use Sculpey Gloss Glaze) Mica Powders
