Grab some water and sunscreen! We are going deep in the desert to look for wild animals! In this one-time class Spanish and science class, students will learn all about Los Animales del Desierto" (Desert Animals). We will learn to pronounce the names of 10 different desert animals and learn some fun facts about each of them along the way! Students will be encouraged to share any thoughts they have or facts they know about each animal. By the end of class, students will be able to identify different animals found in the desert in Spanish and say some cool new facts about each of them in English! We will play games at the end of class to review what we've learned. [Notice: No previous Spanish knowledge required. This is not a Spanish immersion lesson. The goal of the class is for students to learn and practice key Spanish vocabulary. The class will be taught in both English and Spanish, with English being the main teaching language.]

Hello! My name is Shannon. I am a Spanish and Culture teacher with a love for languages, animals, crafts, and fun! I believe learning a second language and learning about different cultures is so important in a world that is becoming more globalized every day.
My classes will be based on learning Spanish as well as different cultural aspects such a food, festivals, and holidays around the world.
My degrees in Spanish and Linguistics (the study of the languages) have given me a strong understanding and strong personal insight into what it means to learn a second language, specifically Spanish, and what challenges it may bring. It´s commonly said, "To know a language is to know its culture and to know a culture is to know its language." I truly believe they go hand-in-hand. Language is not something you can be taught from a textbook. It needs to be spoken and heard.
After graduating from the University of Georgia in 2016, I moved to Spain for over 5 years. During my time, I mastered the language and absorbed a new culture, which I have truly grown to love. As a result, I have developed a varied set of skills, including strong interpersonal communication, the ability to relate and empathize with people, and an appreciation for diversity and individuality.
I´ve learned that communication is not just verbal but also physical. For this reason, my classes are dynamic, interactive, and fun!
While in Spain, I worked in private and public schools with students ranging from 3-18. I worked in bilingual education in small group settings, large classes, as well as one-on-one. I have also taught English online for over 3 years to Spanish speakers and children from China.
As a teacher, I am very energetic, positive, and patient. I understand how important it is to have a supportive teacher who is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure their students are successful.
I teach in various ways for the students to engage and better understand the material depending on the way they learn best. My personal background, personality, and own experiences learning Spanish help me connect and empathize with people from different cultures, countries, and backgrounds.
FUN FACTS:
1. I am from Atlanta, GA, but I lived in Spain for 5 years.
2. I am fluent in Spanish and English.
3. I love to travel! I have been to almost 20 countries.
4. I love animals, crafting, and cooking.
I look forward to having your child in my classroom. I hope they will leave every class with a stronger desire to learn and explore.
Kindly,
Miss Shannon
