This is a crochet class for a beginner crocheter to create a wearable piece. Students should already be able to create simple stitches and have some experience making simple squares/rectangles to be prepared for this class. (I have a separate class available for students who have never crocheted before.) We will learn to read a simple crochet pattern while we create a simple hat and accompanying pom-pom. So what will each class look like? Week 1: Students will learn to create a "back loop only" crochet stitch. We learn about yarn and crochet hook sizes and how they affect our projects. We will also begin to learn the basics of reading a pattern. Week 2: We will complete our hat, learn how to create a pom pom, and finish reading our pattern. I will provide some short videos for students to reference while they work on their hat between classes. I will also provide them with a copy of the pattern for the hat.
Metas de aprendizaje
Skills we will learn in this class: pattern reading, making stitches through the back loop, the single crochet stitch, seaming, making a pom pom.

Lista de útiles escolares
Materials you will need: 1. YARN: Size 5 or size 6 yarn. Sometimes this yarn is also called "bulky" or "super bulky". The yarn I used for the hat in the picture is Lion brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in the color Fig. You can choose whatever yarn you like best BUT I do warn students that anything "furry" or "fuzzy" will be VERY difficult to work with. Your stitches disappear inside the fuzz/fur. 2. HOOKS : A hook size recommendation will be on the back of your yarn label. I suggest going up one size from the recommendation. For example-If the label says to get a size 4.0mm, size up to a 5.0mm hook. 3. Scissors (please use your own discretion about safety with scissors) 4. Yarn needle 5. An opening stitch marker (at least one.) You can also use paper clips or safety pins as stitch markers. 6. For a large pom pom, students will just use their hand. For a small pom pom, students will need a fork.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello! My name is Brittany and I’m excited to help your child tap into their creative side. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art with a minor in Bookmaking. I have experience teaching adults and children of all ages in museum and summer camp settings. I also have 3 years of experience in online teaching.
I firmly believe that anyone can make art they are proud of. I want to teach your child some tips and tricks for thinking like an artist. I always want to prioritize the idea of adding “yet” when we feel overwhelmed. “I can’t do this…YET!”
I have two very serious studio assistants (cats) who like to see what we’re working on. I am an avid reader, knitter, and crocheter and would love to add classes in these areas soon. See you in class!
