Tarea
Students will take a quiz and do one writing assignment per week. This writing assignment should take no less than 1 hour of time. Students will be given an example to refer to for each assignment. Quizzes will be short and will give the students a deeper grasp of the current learning objectives.Experiencia de clase

Students will learn how criminal laws are created, how they are interpreted, how the constitution affects the law, and become prosecutors to learn about how the court system works. Students will practice their persuasive writing skills. Week 1: How the criminal justice system works. Students will learn about specific constitutional amendments. They will learn about drafting laws and ordinances (assignment) Week 2: Break down laws into elements. Students will learn about case law and how it affects the legal process. They will learn the role of the prosecutor. They will charge, dismiss, and send to diversion 5 cases. Week 3: In-Depth Trial Prep. Students will learn to draft an opening and closing argument (assignment) Week 4: In-Depth Trial. Students will learn how to interview witnesses. Students will draft questions for witnesses which focus on the elements of the case(assignment) Week 5: Jury Selection. Students will learn about the process of jury selection. We will cover the constitutional issues. Students will develop a jury profile or write a paper on Batson (assignment) Week 6: Direct Examination. Students will learn to draft direct questions (assignment) Week 7: Cross-Examination. Students draft cross-examination questions (assignment) Week 8: Trial Students will turn in a case assignment. Each week students will watch a video presentation that will be followed by an interactive quiz. They will have a specific writing assignment to do and hand in before the next week. Students will receive feedback on each assignment before the next week.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the American criminal justice system. Students will develop persuasive writing skills. They will learn interview techniques and they will develop a greater understanding of the constitution.
