In this creative writing class, every week students will choose a small moment they have experienced in their lives. Before class starts, they will share this moment on the classroom page. During video chats each week, each student will discuss their moment for ten minutes giving every detail they remember about the memory they are sharing. Then, I will have each student identify the lesson they learned from this moment, and the importance this moment had on their life. After identifying the important aspects of their memory, they will have twenty minutes to freely write and get their thoughts on paper. I will ask them questions to guide their thoughts. With the last fifteen minutes, they will be asked to add in a certain number of transitions, conversations, adjectives, figurative language, and more. Each week, we will focus on different aspects of writing that enhance a story to be the best that it can be. The major point for students to understand is how to make their memories come alive, so that they are not just retelling the moment, but reliving it for readers to experience as well. Students will then type the final draft of their writing after class to me in the classroom. I will check every week and give feedback to help students become fantastic creative writers. This class is structured to engaged students to learn to love writing and expressing their ideas. I will provide students with many writing tips to advance their writing to a higher level.
