▬▬▬▬▬▬ COURSE SUMMARY ▬▬▬▬▬▬
Whether your are new to writing, or experienced with several stories to your name, this camp is made to help all types of creative writers to build up your own creative writing skills. We will use examples from our favorite books such as "Wings of Fire", "The Hunger Games", "Lord of the Rings" and "Percy Jackson" to learn about the techniques that some of the best authors use in their story making.

Class 1: In our first class together, we will talk about super sentences as we build a foundation that will carry us through the camp and the rest of our writing days. This class will begin with an introduction to sentence structure, then showcase what makes a complete sentence as opposed to a run-on or fragmented sentence. From there we will discuss what makes basic sentences different from complex sentences and we will practice adding additional information to a basic sentence to make it more complex. You will be given examples using famous characters or settings, and will be able to add in your own details as we work together to create personalized, detailed sentences.

Class 2: On day two we will dive into the mysteries of adjectives, and how to add some magic into them. We will start this lesson by learning about what an adjective is, how we may use adjectives and what they do to in our sentences. We will then learn about the "bad" adjectives that are 'wanted for crimes against the written word'. Together we will look at some examples of exemplary adjectives and discuss what makes these images so vivid and then try our hand at adding in important adjectives to make a dull sentence into a great one.

Class 3: On our third day together, we will break out of 'boring' writing by using powerful verb replacements. This lesson will walk you through the most commonly (and overused) verbs and how to change them into something more vibrant for our readers. We will look at using verbs to perform to tasks at the same time by providing an image and an emotion for each character we discuss.

Class 4: On day four, we dive into the figurative arts with imagery. We'll talk all about how to show, not tell with our writing and how to set a tone with a sentence or two. We'll discuss what helps us visualize people and places, what important words and descriptions can help to create intense feelings for readers, and how to share our own ideas in dramatic, engaging language.

Class 5: On our last day together, we will discuss one of the most advanced ideas in writing; symbolism. Together, we will find the meaning of color through symbolism and talk about how and where this technique is used. In this lesson we will examine how color is used to represent different ideas in the magical world and how we can attempt to do the same in our own creative writing.

I create my entire teaching schedule based on schedule requests, so if you don't see a time that works for you, please put in a request!
