During this class, students will work on identifying story elements and using them to create their own story. This will be done step by step and by using mentor texts. We will also cover grammar at the end of each lesson. This class is perfect for writers who have the basics and want to expand their writing. Class 1- Story Elements, Planning and writing about the setting and main characters in great detail, incomplete vs. complete sentences. Class 2- Writing the problem for your story while using questioning to drive content, using conjunctions. Class 3- Writing about the solution in your story and using adjectives. Class 4- Adding details to your completed story. Grammer practice to review adjectives. Class 5- Editing and Revising strategies and work on using proper verb tense through the story. Class 6- Alternative Endings and review all concepts covered through this course. Students are encouraged to participate and share during class. This will allow the teacher to give them helpful feedback and increase their understanding.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Holly, and I am happy you are here. I absolutely love learning and teaching while inspiring creativity. I strive to give my students a supportive, engaging, and laid-back environment where they are free to be themselves. I earned my Master’s degree in Elementary Education and have been teaching for over 10 years. I have experience working with children in preschool through 12th grade in multiple educational settings. After graduating, I worked as a classroom teacher for 7 years. During my time with the school system I worked on curriculum development projects, provided district-wide training and served as the lead language arts teacher for K-7. I eventually transitioned to provide instruction as a Certified Tutor and enjoy a renewed focus on my instruction practices. Writing instruction has been a passion since the beginning of my career. I frequently participate in workshops and classes to gain more knowledge and to find new ways to meet my student’s needs. I enjoy fostering creativity and building confidence through writing.
