This is the ongoing social club version of my popular one-time class by the same name.

In our club we will meet each week to exercise our creative muscles. We will examine creative writing from all angles, and practice coming up with new, fun ideas for our stories.

We're going to learn to break down creative writing in small, fun-sized chunks by exploring single paragraphs, single sentences, and even single words. In this way the kids can spend some low stress time with their words and ideas. Students are going to become more comfortable and confident in choosing what topics to write about, and expressing their ideas in good quality sentences. This is going to happen without all the usual complaining, because we’re going to get our practice through silly laugh-out-loud games and exercises.

Caution: Kids might have so much fun playing that they don’t even notice that they’re learning!

During class we will move quickly through several fun games and activities. Activities will vary from week to week but students may expect some of the following:
- Story Time Jeopardy, an inventive story plot game where the learners are given silly 'answers' and must come up with the questions
- Roll the dice story ideas, a quick dice game to get their creative juices flowing
- Cooking Up a Story, A fun game where learners are challenged to write a story using random ‘ingredients’ chosen by the teacher.
- New vocabulary sentences, where we learn to use fun but obscure words
- Stretchy Sentences, where students start with 3-5 words and end up with 7-100 words
-60 second writing prompts, where we stop and scribble as fast as we can.
-Silly writing challenges such as, the longest sentence without the word ‘and’ or retelling a story without any adjectives, or write a paragraph without using the letter S.
- We will discuss figurative language devices such as alliteration, hyperbole, irony, symbolism, and more.

Each class will begin with a word of the day activity in which students will warm up by taking turns using our word of the day in a sentence.
We will then introduce our general theme of the week.
The bulk of our class time will be spent playing games that have been drawn at random from my jar.
We will play a minimum of 3 games each class. Games will last from 3-8 minutes, and we will play as many games as time allows.
Each class will end with my most popular activity which is Cooking Up in which I give the class 'ingredients' for a story and they will have 3 minutes to come up with a story using the provided elements.

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I'm an avid reader, and an author.
I was never so surprised in all my life as when my son told me he "just wasn't into reading" and that he thought "writing was the worst part of school." I had to think quick before he missed out on all the magic that I knew was waiting for him within the pages of books.
And so family book club was born. And then books and friends, and soon my house was overflowing with reluctant readers bouncing up and down and waiting desperately to tell Miss Tammi all their favorite bits from last week's reading.
I have spent ten years coaxing children into eager readers and confident writers. I love to watch those smiles light up when they realize there is a whole hidden world inside of books. In that world they never need to try to fit in, or please other people. In that world they are welcomed, they are wanted, and they are inspired.
