$40 off with coupon code CARTERCOZY40 expires Saturday 11/2 Get ready for a fun and creative adventure in my Hand Sewing and Storytelling class! We’ll be making cute felt forest animals while listening to the thought-provoking audiobook *Wishtree* by Katherine Applegate. Are you the kind of person who has to fidget to focus? Come listen to the adventures of a tree, and the animals that make the tree their home, while keeping your hands busy crafting. Looking to expand your collection of stuffed animals? Come learn to hand sew adorable woodland creatures in a low-pressure environment with support and encouragement. An audiobook provides the perfect background, stitching together a story of community while we stitch our own creations. Not sure what to give family and friends for any of the upcoming holidays? I’ve got you covered! Come hang out with fellow crafters, listen to a unique story from the perspective of a tree, and create 8 adorable gift-able felt animals. Here’s how it works: each class, you’ll follow simple, step-by-step instructions and demonstrations to sew your own adorable animal friend. As you sew, we’ll dive into the world of *Wishtree*, listening to two captivating chapters that will spark your imagination. We’ll pause just enough to learn new sewing tips and tricks, and at the end, we’ll discuss the story, its elements, and what we think could happen next! Whether you want to chat with the group or share your thoughts with me through the messages, your ideas are always welcome. This class is perfect for anyone who likes to keep their hands busy while enjoying a good story. You can wiggle, fidget, and create. Other information: Supplies: You WILL need the Craftorama Sewing Kit for Kids: Woodland Animals which is available at https://a.co/d/1k6BGv6 The kit comes with your choice of metal or plastic needles, and metal pins. If you do not want to use metal pins to hold fabric in place, you will need tape - washi tape recommended but regular clear tape is fine. It is recommended that you wind the embroidery floss on a bobbin or small piece or cardboard for easier use before class begins. This is demonstrated in the video in the class listing. You do NOT need to own the book to participate. We will be listening to the audiobook during class, which I will provide. ___________________ Publisher’s description: Trees can't tell jokes, but they can certainly tell stories. . . . Red is an oak tree who is many rings old. Red is the neighborhood "wishtree"―people write their wishes on pieces of cloth and tie them to Red's branches. Along with a crow named Bongo and other animals who seek refuge in Red's hollows, this wishtree watches over the neighborhood. You might say Red has seen it all. Until a new family moves in. Not everyone is welcoming, and Red's experience as a wishtree is more important than ever. Funny, deep, warm, and nuanced, this is Katherine Applegate at her very best―writing from the heart, and from a completely unexpected point of view. ___________________ Finances should never stand in the way of meeting a learner’s educational needs. Otros detalles
Necesidades de aprendizaje
The class kit has pre-cut felt, prepped for easy sewing a plastic needle. Metal needles and pins are optional.
Keeping hands busy enables learners to fidget in a meaningful way and enjoy the audiobook.
Orientación para padres
The book mentions mistreatment of a Muslim family after they move into the community - egging the home, carving “Leave” into the tree, and the child of the family having no friends at school. There is a possibility the tree will be cut down. There is also a flashback to a young Irish immigrant who overcomes poverty and loss.
The overall message of the book is about finding community, problem solving, and resourceful woodland creatures, including the tree.
Requisitos previos
Learners will need to be able to grasp the needle, thread a needle (with or without included needle threader) handle small pieces, and tie basic knots. All skills will be demonstrated.
