Qué está incluido

1 reunión en vivo
1 horas presenciales
Tarea
1 hora por semana. Students will receive chess puzzle homework sheets in a PDF format to be printed out. The chess puzzle homework sheets will be discussed in class to make sure all students understand what to do.
Evaluación
A learner is assessed by understanding the answers on each chess puzzle assignment and knowing how to checkmate to win their games. When a student practices chess at home with others, or on-line, their skills will increase--this will reflect in their knowledge of the game.

Experiencia de clase

The students will learn the difference between checkmate, draw games and stalemates. They will learn that Draw games and stalemates are tie games--that nobody wins. The students will learn that they will receive a half point for a Draw game or a Stalemate and one point for a checkmate. A discussion will also be had about the student not resigning his games because his opponent may not know how to checkmate. Towards the last half of the class, the students will play either the teacher or another student on lichess.org.

Metas de aprendizaje

By learning the difference between a checkmate, draw game and a stalemate, the students will improve their game by looking for ways to prevent a draw game from happening and to instead, look for ways to checkmate.

Lichess.org and ChessKid.com are great, safe resources to access daily Chess Puzzles, to play chess against the computer, or against other chess players around the world. There are videos on the ChessKid.com site that the students can watch, done by Grand Masters, who can really help the students achieve a higher skill level in chess.

I am a retired public school teacher of 26 years and currently am a Supervisor of Academic Programming for the Central New York Chess organization on Outschool (https://outschool.com/teachers/CENTRAL-NY-CHESS-INC?usid=wUq7nkLS&signup=true&authTrigger=follow_teacher&follow=true&utm_campaign=share_leader_link). I have taught children and adults in Beginning and Intermediate 1 Chess classes for 23 years in after school programs, summer Chess Camps, online in my Cool Chess classes and now for Central New York Chess. I love to see how Chess helps the brain to think, to make predictions, to sequence, see patterns, etc. I love to see when a student learns how to checkmate and improves upon their game! I teach One Time Cool Chess classes and Private and Multi-Day Classes with Central New York Chess. I enjoy Art, Chess, Scrapbooking, and Travel! I hope to see you in my chess classes soon!
