1 hora por semana. I'll give a short assignment for all lessons except the first one. The material might involve reviewing how to express various times (such four o'clock, six-thirty) or exercises involving asking questions, for example. Students should do their best to complete these items individually outside of class time; that way we can "hit the ground running" in every new session. If they have trouble with the homework, we'll clear that up when we go over the assignment.Experiencia de clase
This course will give learners the ability to converse in German about a spectrum of everyday topics. It will concentrate on effective speaking and listening, but also include some reading and writing exercises, as well as basic grammar to facilitate the learners' ability to use the language. Here's a syllabus of the course that shows topics that we'll cover in each lesson: I. Days and Months; Numbers (0-20); Colors; Greeting Someone and Asking Basic Questions (e.g. "What's your name?") II. Numbers (0-100); Telling Time; Asking Questions; Leisure Time Vocabulary; Talking About Hobbies and Interests III. More Ways to Ask Questions; Discussing Likes, Dislikes, and Preferences IV. House Vocabulary; Describing Houses V. More House Vocabulary; Talking About Yourself VI. City Vocabulary (e.g. park, bridge); Talking About Family Members and Friends VII. Traffic Vocabulary (e.g. truck, bicycle); Talking About Your Family VIII. Food Vocabulary (e.g. breakfast, lunch) IX. More Food Vocabulary (e.g. apple, tomato) X. Review of Conversation Topics
Metas de aprendizaje
I'll structure this course in a "spiraling" fashion, the way I used to put together my middle school German classes - meaning that I won't just cover a subject once, but often come back to it and delve into it more deeply. For example, in one session I'll introduce the numbers 0 to 20; in the next lesson I'll review that and also talk about all of the numbers from 0 to 100.
As the course develops, I'll use German as much as possible so that participants can feel more comfortable with the language.
In this kind of class it's important that all learners are willing to speak with me and with one another so that we can practice and absorb the materials and skills being presented. They'll need to participate actively during each lesson, interacting with me and with each other.

I'll provide you with several handouts for each lesson. Please have them available when we meet, and please keep all of them in a folder or a binder as they come your way so that we can refer back to earlier material as the class progresses. Thanks!

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
As the son of German parents who immigrated to the States, I grew up speaking German and later learned it formally in high school and at the university. Later on I was fortunate to live Germany for several years, for three years as a guest student at two state universities and then as an English instructor in different public schools for three years. I began tutoring German in the late Seventies and subsequently taught the language in public schools from 1985 to 2016, when I retired. Since my retirement I've organized online courses for college-age students and adults that are typically focused on exam preparation (e.g., the B1 exam) and Business German.
I'm looking forward to teaching younger students once again on Outschool!
