Are you ready for the college classroom experience? Do you understand your own learning style? How do you learn best? Which strategies will help you to retain information for mastery of a subject? Which strategies will have you studying long hours with little success or mastery? How much time should you spend on studying and still have time for other activities, such as work, sports, or dating? In College Readiness 101, you will explore your learning style, multiple intelligence, motivations, and expectations of moving from a homeschool (or public high school) to a community college or university environment. Through a series of pre-class materials, students will determine their personal learning styles and strategies for successful first steps into higher education. In class, students will discuss implementing strategies in practical scenarios. Students are expected to complete a writing component describing the results of their self-exploration. Learner progress will be evaluated through active participation in both in-class discussion and completion of pre-class material, presentation, discussion board interaction, and completion of writing component in a formal essay. Session 1: Introductions/ AIMSA Activity/ Discussion board interaction. Session 2: VARK & MISA Strategies Session 3: Jung Typology Results/ Group Discussion/ Email your essay to the instructor. Session 4: Present your discoveries to the class Note: Essays will be returned before the end of session 4.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have a unique opportunity to prevent others from suffering through some of the same obstacles I faced as a college freshman. I feel my experience, both personal and professional, needs to be shared to prevent a negative or disheartening first semester in higher education. I spent four years teaching this subject as part of a semester-long, bridgeway course at a community college. I have seen how putting these strategies into practical application has successfully impacted students’ grades, motivations, and self-value. I have often heard a “thank you” from my students at the end of the semester.
