Hey Outschoolers! Welcome to Coach Scott's Hockey Garage!

Have you ever thought about what makes a skater fast? How does your body work when your are skating your fastest? Are there ways you could get stronger that would make you a faster skater?

Most coaches don't have time to dig into your skating stride during the season. Plus a lot of us are home right now waiting for our youth sports to return as we observe a pause on our seasons. Strength for Skating Stride is a great way to work on the muscle groups that will help you be a faster skater. It's a great way to stay in shape as you wait for your seasons to start (or start again)!

Strength for Skating Stride is a physically active class in which students will work on strengthening muscle groups involved in proper skating stride, and will impart knowledge to young learners about the "kinesiology" of skating.

5 minutes will be devoted to sharing information about how your body works when it is skating.
• What does a proper skating stride look like?
• What muscles are being used during a skating stride?
• What should I look like when I'm striding?

25-30 minutes will be devoted to physically working out.
• Knee Bend
• Explosive Movements
• Core Strength

This class is focused on hockey players, but it will be great for any curious youth that wants to be physically active. This will translate well for athletes that ski, figure skate, or play sports like soccer, football or basketball where side to side movements are used.

Metas de aprendizaje

• Students will increase knowledge of the kinesiology of skating.
• Students will gain awareness of the muscles they use during skating.
• Students will gain awareness of muscle groups they could personally work on for improvement in skating.
• Students will grow stronger in key muscle groups related to ice skating.
• Students will sweat!
