If racism or discrimination is brought up in class due to the book, I will address this by stating that racism or discrimination is not right. Everyone has something to learn from each other, and we all have some amazing qualities about each other. In this book, we see how students work past indigenous racism and become friends or work through it.

I am originally from Britain, and as a child, I went around many stately homes. My parents were both born in the 1930s, and my mum's stories of WWII allowed me to see history in such a different way. I have taken many classes in history, and my love for literature has grown over the years, that I would love to share this love to allow students to see that history and literature can be fun to learn and to learn how communities can come together. I have taken many university-level courses in communication, history, and racism which help me address this book from a critical perspective to allow students to engage in the topics of this book in a healthy, safe environment where everyone is valued. I have taught and subbed for over twenty years, as well as taken college English including studies of various literature. I have taught the Anne of Green Gables series in many classes and students have loved the discussions we have. I have done intensive studies with students to do with English Literature up to high school level that included topics of racism.
