2 horas presencialesTarea
2-4 horas por semana. Problem sets will be provided the first day that the class opens. The homework will not be checked for correctness, but it must be completed before the assessment at the end of the second week in order to receive a certificate of completion of the course. The worked out solutions for the problem set will be provided at the time of the first synchronous class.Evaluación
There will be 1 assessment towards the end of the second week. The assessment will be available for students to do at home within a designated 2 hour period. In order to receive a certificate of completion of the course all students much complete the assessment.Calificación
Feedback will be provided on all student's assessments that is intended to reflect the degree of content mastery.Experiencia de clase

This two-week power session focuses on guiding students using problem solving strategies and help them learn to be critical thinkers. The course content is designed for students to gain a more solid understanding of atomic behavior which is the foundation of chemistry itself. In order to be truly successful in chemistry, students must master these concepts as it provides the framework and concepts continue to build upon themselves up through the highest level of chemistry. Students who develop these skills are able to apply them to other STEM courses with much success. This intensive course will cover a range of energy concepts, including kinetic energy, potential energy, Coulomb's law, work, the first law of thermodynamics, analysis of energy units, electromagnetic forces of attraction, gravitational force, Newton's first law, and Bohr's Hydrogen Model. These topics/concepts are used to build the foundation of understanding why atoms behave the way they do. Students will engage in two synchronous contact hours with the teacher over two weeks, with one hour per week. This time is used to explore specific questions related to the lesson as well as ensuring a deeper understanding and clarity of the content. Students will have the ability to contact the teacher via email with questions regarding the course material/practice problems they may have during the 2 week session. Week 1 Monday: Students receive course materials, including a comprehensive video lesson created by the teacher along with practice problem sets related to the lesson. Wednesday morning 9:30 a.m - 10:30 am Synchronous 1 hour class meeting where students are able to ask questions regarding the video content and practice problems. Answers to the practice problems will be provided at the beginning of the meeting. The practice problems will not be collected, however due to the rapid nature of this class, it is encouraged that the students look at all of the questions and at least attempt some prior to Wednesday morning's class. Week 2 Wednesday morning 9:30 a.m.: Synchronous 1 hour class meeting for any additional questions. Thursday: Assessment on lesson topics/practice problems will be open from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Friday: Students will have their assessments returned to them with feedback from the professor. Students who complete the assessment will receive a certificate of completion for the course.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will gain a more comprehensive understanding of atomic behavior through a problem solving/critical thinking approach.
Programa de estudios
2 Lecciones
más de 2 semanasLección 1:
Connection of Energy concepts and atomic behavior.
Prior to the our first live online class, students will have received a video and a set of practice problems related to the content of the video that was prepared by the teacher. During this first live lesson, the teacher will answer any questions regarding the content of the video as well as provide any needed clarity in regards to the practice problems and any additional underlying concepts.

Lección 2:
Using problem solving strategies to solve difficult chemistry problems.
Discussion of the solutions to the practice problems as well as the format students should use when showing their work when solving the problems. Problem solving strategies for the practice problems will also be reviewed and reinforced.
