Experiencia de clase

Learn and talk about Pokémon; Practice your reading skills daily. Apply upper elementary reading comprehension skills.
Part 3 is the third in my I Choose You! Pokémon Type Series. Every class has new information and has a fun atmosphere!

This class is perfect for emerging readers, readers who love reading, and readers who greatly dislike reading. This is a reading based class. Class will feel like a fourth grade classroom with numerous accommodations. All students can participate, feel welcome, feel equal, feel comfortable, and can enjoy what we are reading.

Fun and bubbly teacher promotes laughter and encourages quick thinking. Game type atmosphere where almost any answer is welcome as long as it is appropriate. Students will improve public speaking skills and build confidence while speaking with others. This is a social class to allows students to become comfortable talking and sharing ideas in a group setting. This class meets on the same day and time each week for your particular session.

Each class begins with a welcome and a quick Pokémon share. Students can share favorite cards, stuffed animals, favorite belongings.
Next, teacher gives a model for expectations for class with a short reading. Students will read from my book which is shown on my document camera. This is similar to how we read smaller portions in my Pokémon Type Social Club class. I will ask students if they would like to read or if they would like me to read. Teacher calls on students using popsicle sticks and allows students to choose what they will read. Sections to be read will be about two sentences at a time to allow for flow and to complete our task for the day.

When a paragraph is completed, we discuss what we read. We pick out key details. Readings will be supplemented with brief videos to illustrate character traits and to apply context when needed. We may take a quick conversation break in between sections, as many students have a hard time sitting for 10-15 minutes at a time. Students may wiggle, stand, get up get down, and sit however they like. However, the camera will need to remain on for the entire class. Many engagement strategies are used and accommodations for every learner are provided seamlessly.

Students will read from my book which is shown on my document camera. This is similar to how we read smaller portions in my Pokémon Type Social Club class. Most importantly, students do not have to be perfect readers. Beginning readers are welcome! This class puts students in the presence of good reading models. Students may join or leave at any time. If your student is a bit outside of the age listed for class, please send me a message.
