This on-going course is designed to help students develop well-crafted, interesting sentences.  The course will be personalized to the student's needs and goals.  We will study different sentences types that allow writers to convey their message clearly and effectively.  Students are encouraged to participate in class through writing and discussion of their writing.  Students may also bring writing that they have previously completed in order to receive feedback.  If possible, please provide writing that you would like reviewed prior to the class if you are interested in receiving feedback.    

Skills to discuss and practice include, but are not limited to: 

Simple sentences (subject/verb agreement, concise sentences)
Compound sentences (coordinating conjunctions, punctuation rules)
Complex sentences (subordinating conjunctions, punctuation rules)
Adding details (adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, prepositional phrase, etc.)
Adding personal tone and voice
Editing and Revising written work
Organizing thoughts 
Pre-Writing strategies 

I can provide a writing assessment during our first session, if needed.  Classes will begin with a mini-lesson covering the grammatical rules associated with the sentence type.  Students will then practice writing their own sentences using the models provided.  Students will share their writing orally (reading it aloud) and/or post through the Outschool platform.
