Qué está incluido

1 reunión en vivo
55 minutos horas de clase por semana
Tarea
1-2 horas por semana. Learners will need to bring original music to the class to perform for each other. Due to copyright restrictions, it's important that students understand they can not play other people's music in the group. It takes time to complete a piece of music so I understand they can't bring a song a week. Learners can come to every group meeting to support each other or just to present what part of the song they do have and ask for ideas on how to keep going from the group.

Experiencia de clase

Are you interested in sharing music that you've created? I'm a songwriter who has run many open-stages over the years and I know how hard it is to get up there and play original music. I also know what it's like to write 100 half songs and not know how to finish them. Come join us to share your original works of music with people your own age and get some positive feedback and encouragement to keep creating!

Each session will be learner-directed and topics or issues to address in songwriting will be decided by the learners. We've explored AI music/lyric generation and use it as a jumping off tool to learn how to structure songs and how to use the tools available to support our creativity.

Students should have the ability to sing or play an instrument (computer counts) in order to share their songs. Each student will have their turn while the rest of the students are muted to not distract from the performance. After the song is over, we can unmute ourselves and talk about the song.

Learners sometimes share audio files if they prerecord their song and that works great for us as well! I will often upload tracks and share them as YouTube links in the class for finished recording projects.

Also, reminder to set your audio settings in zoom to be the Audio setting Original Sound for Musicians should be selected and then when in class, remember to select it at the top to be ON (this removes noise suppression and allows me to hear your instrument as well as your voice (as well as all your background noise so you need to be in a quiet room). Here is a good tutorial https://youtu.be/bEZMRtrSsYY

Orientación para padres
Please remember that these are teenagers writing songs. There may be language warnings and what might be deemed as inappropriate content for some. I will ask each learner to tone down their compositions and to warn the group if the content contains sexual references, offensive language or violent imagery. I would prefer that it doesn't but sometimes songs can be quite emotionally powerful or triggering so please check in with your learner after class.
Lista de útiles escolares
Instrument to accompany. It's tricky singing loudly into a headset or microphone as Zoom has a tendency to cut out. We will just have to work out the optimal set up as we go.
