Brazilian Capoeira is a fun way to get moving and learn new things. The students will follow the movements the teacher performs on the screen. This class is designed to focus on traditional Brazilian Capoeira movements. Each concept will be presented in an age appropriate fashion. A typical class will be structured as follows: - Warm up game - Basic movement introduction - Dodge drills - Kick drills - Intro to Acrobatic movement - Cool down - Traditional "axé" shout These basics are a wonderful introduction to the art form. Something important to remember is that capoeira is a Brazilian martial art. While this class is conducted mostly in American English, many of the songs, games, and movements are from the Brazilian Portuguese language. I will demonstrate these words and provide an opportunity for the students to repeat and learn them. After the class ends, I will also provide an optional activity for the students to complete through the week. This may be a printable coloring page, a vocab list, a puzzle page, or a Brazilian Portuguese children's video. This activity will help reinforce what the students learned in the class, and help introduce them to more Brazilian history, culture, and language.
Metas de aprendizaje
The students will develop coordination, rhythm, confidence, and strength as they learn some of the basic kicks, dodges, and acrobatic movements of Brazilian Capoeira. They will also have the opportunity to learn some basic terms in Brazilian Portuguese, as will as be introduced to some Brazilian culture and music.

Orientación para padres
While I strive to keep all of my classes as safe as possible, as in any workout routine, there is always a chance of injury due to falls or slips. Please make sure that the learner has adequate space to perform the movements (about 6 foot diameter area that is tall enough to perform handstands), dresses in clothes that allow easy movement, and has a water bottle available. Please also make sure that there is someone in the house or training area that will be able to assist the learner in the event of an accident. Please keep in mind that capoeira is traditionally trained barefoot. Students are welcome to train barefoot, or may choose to wear shoes. I advise against wearing only socks since socks are slippery and increase the chance of injury.
Lista de útiles escolares
Learners should come to class prepared to move. I recommend having an open area about 6 feet in diameter to move in (depending on the size of the child). I also recommend wearing clothes that are easy to move in, and to have a water bottle available. Traditionally, capoeira is practiced with bare feet, but students are welcome to wear shoes if they would like. Mostly, all you need is yourself and a good attitude! :)

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I love capoeira! I have been training capoeira for almost 16 years, and it is truly my passion. My current rank is Graduado, and I practice frequently in groups and on my own. I am offering this course because I feel that capoeira develops many different areas at the same time. It has helped me to grow in strength, flexibility, confidence, musicality, language skills, communication, and culture. I believe that it will do the same for anyone else who train seriously. This class will provide a valuable introduction to the skill as well as encourage children to develop a healthy habit of movement. It will show them that staying in shape can be fun, and it will help them grow into well-rounded individuals.
