Week 1:
During the first week of class, learners cover the history of how these herbs were once used in medicine. This will cover the knowledge about how the Erin Hunter's use old 17th century medical knowledge as well as how the herbs are used today (teas, food seasoning, etc.) This class will focus on the history and the botany of the herbs rather than any modern medical uses. This three days will be focused on the author of Erin Hunter's source for herbs while the last four days of the week will focus on a small selection of herbs (8) to get the class started on discovering the botany and climate that these plants grow in. For student participation together, students will play kahoot and blooket, reinforcing this new plant knowledge with fun games. Students will learn about these herbs through class lectures, where they will see visual examples of what the herbs look like. Then students will have a chance to discuss our sourcebook of herbs, speculating about future herbs that Erin Hunter may use within their book series. They will be able to come up with their own ideas about how this will incorporate into Warrior universe, as well as be able to create a scenario where a Warrior Cat would use the herb.

Week 2:
During the second week of class, we will start to cover herbs more in depth. Learners will be able to learn through lecture where a different selection of 8 herbs are located and what conditions it takes to grow them. Students will be able to take care of their own virtual herb for this week, just as if they were a medicine cat, and have to list what they would have to do to take care of the plant for its future survival. Once again, students will be able to participate in games where they will reinforce their knowledge about what the herbs they have just learned about does as well as how they can look after them. For student-to-teacher interaction outside of lectures, I will function as a random event generator, where I will become a bad event that will effect a student's herb. A student will then act as a medicine cat and post about the action that they are doing to help their herb.

Week 3:
For the third week, students will learn about a final 8 'herbs.' However, the difference to this class is that students will be learning the difference between 'herb' and 'other plants used in Warriors LIKE herbs.' Students will discover the difference between a herb and other plants while also playing a little game where they have to decide whether a plant is or isn't an herb. One of the days during this week will give students a chance to use their debating skills on whether a specific plant is or isn't an herb (garlic, for example) and why or why not this is the case. For teacher participation, I will lecture on the difference between herbs and other plants as well as moderate the discussion on why plants are or aren't herbs. For student participation together, students will play kahoot and blooket, reinforcing this new plant knowledge with fun games. Students will learn about these herbs through class lectures, where they will see visual examples of what the herbs look like. Then students will also get a chance to draw one of these herbs, which will add to the reinforcement of this knowledge. As a teacher, I will also give a short how-to on drawing herbs.

Week 4:
For the final week of class, students will face their medicine cat test. Students will be given a scenario in the classroom twice a day for the extent of this week. During that time, students will be able to discover how much of the past three weeks they remember as they attempt to, as a group, work out how to cure or help each cat in these scenarios. Along with that, students will also be offered a last couple games for fun, which will let them refresh their knowledge of the earlier weeks. During this time, I will be coming up with the scenarios and providing feedback to the students about their actions. These scenarios can be helping a cat, protecting a plant from problems, finding a specific herb, or planting a herb. Students will then be able to practically apply both the history and the botany that they have learned in this class. As a farewell, participants will receive their medicine cat name.
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will be able to conceptualize the use of herbs in the past. Learners will also be able identify plants and work out where they are located in the wild.

Orientación para padres
The Warriors series by Erin Hunter contains death and violence. The herbs described in this class are used in relation to this violence. Warriors is a series directed at 8-12 year olds. Parents are best aware if Warriors is suitable or not for their children.

I have taught four other classes on Outschool which discuss this subject in detail. I take this class from a historical and botanical perspective, describing how herbs were used in history, as well as biomes/weather that these plants are located in. I make it quite clear to students that these herbs are not to be used for medical purposes, while empathizing the fantasy aspect of their uses in the book.
