There is an art to solving systems of equations. I've been teaching math for sixteen years and I've been a personal SAT tutor for seven years. My students have typically raised their scores between 100 and 300 points as a result of my tutoring. My secret to getting these results is making sure that the students truly understand the underlying concepts when practicing their problems. I want to do the same for your student. Many of my one-time math courses hone in on one skill with a set goal to know how to tackle problems in that specific area. That could make a big difference in a student's final score! Learners in this lesson will focus on what College Board calls “The Heart of Algebra”, and specifically on solving systems of linear equations. Students will learn to identify what the question is asking for and relate it back to what they know about systems of linear equations. We will review approaches to those systems. Students will first review concepts with systems of equations. For example, understanding what happens when the lines are parallel, the same line, or intersecting. They will then review methods of solving systems of equations. We will then practice the easier questions and, as mastery develops, move to the harder questions. We apply the "I do"/ "We do" / "You Do" to the more difficult questions. Thanks for having your learner study with me. I can't wait to see him/her in class!
Metas de aprendizaje
At the end of this class, your student will be able to say, "I can identify whether a system of linear equations intersect, are parallel, or overlap, and I know what implications these scenarios have to the solutions of the system. I can solve the systems of linear equations with improved speed. I can identify several types of test questions I expect to get on linear systems of equations. I can more easily recollect the methodology to handle these test questions.”

Necessary prerequisite knowledge:
Students should be able to solve linear equations with reasonable speed. If this is something you student needs practice on, you can enroll him/her in this class: Boom! Nailed It! Algebra Topic 1: Solving Linear Equations.
Students should also know the terminology around linear equations such as slope, intercept, independent variable and dependent variable and be able to interpret what these mean in the context of a word problem. If your student needs help in this area, you can enroll him/her in this class: Boom! Nailed It! Algebra Topic 2: Interpreting Linear Equations.
Students should also know how to read a linear equation word problem and understand it well enough to build the linear equation and solve. If your student needs help in this area, you can enroll him/her in this class: Boom! Nailed It! Algebra Topic 3: Linear Equation Word Problems.
Students should also know how to graph inequalities. If your student needs help in this area, you can enroll him/her in this class: Boom! Nailed It! Algebra Topic 5: Graphing Linear Equations
Students should also know how to solve linear function word problems. If your student needs help in this area, you can enroll him/her in this class: Boom! Nailed It! Algebra Topic 6: Linear Function Word Problems.

I've been certified in the public schools for teaching math in middle and high schools. I received additional certified training for gifted and talented learners. I taught math for sixteen years and I've been a personal SAT tutor for seven years. My students have typically raised their scores between 100 and 300 points. As a chemical engineer and project management professional in the world of business consulting and information technology consulting, I've completed over five levels of college calculus and applied mathematics and used these math and computing skills throughout my career.
The students I have taught had varying learning abilities that ranged from one with pronounced learning disabilities to gifted and talented. When it came to PSAT's and SAT's, each of them with impressive improvements in their scores.
It can be done! I used a focused approach. We honed in on trouble areas, really understood the underlying math concept, and drilled for mastery.
