New to the I Survived series? Already familiar with the first-person narrative that makes learning history an adventure? No matter where you are in your reading journey, you're invited to join this interactive book club! We will share our thoughts and delve deeper into each story. Before class, students will read one book per week from the I Survived series, written by Lauren Tarshis. *Please note, in order to meet copyright law, students must have their own copy of the book to participate in this class. We will not be reading books during class. As a group, we will discuss the reading; highlighting important facts and events to help readers delve further into each topic. This class is designed to strengthen reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. At the beginning of class, we will go over any difficult vocabulary or passages. Next, we will discuss what was learned from each book. How did characters deal with their problems? Is the story relatable? Discussion questions and topics will be posted for the upcoming week to guide students as they read. Finally, students are encouraged to share their favorite parts of the book. They can also share anything that may have surprised them or really got them thinking. Since we will be reading one book per week, students can sign up for any weeks they choose. *This series is suggested for ages 7-12, but feel free to use your own judgment for your child. ************************************************************************************************* Week of: 6/12: I Survived the Battle of D-Day, 1944 by Lauren Tarshis 6/19: I Survived The Great Molasses Flood, 1919 by Lauren Tarshis 7/03: I Survived the California Wildfires, 2018 by Lauren Tarshis 7/17: I Survived the Galveston Hurricane, 1900 by Lauren Tarshis 7/24: I Survived The Sinking Of The Titanic, 1912 by Lauren Tarshis 7/31: I Survived the Shark Attacks of 1916 by Lauren Tarshis 8/07: I Survived Hurricane Katrina, 2005 by Lauren Tarshis 8/21: I Survived the Bombing of Pearl Harbor, 1941 by Lauren Tarshis 8/28: I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 by Lauren Tarshis 9/04: I Survived the Attacks of September 11th 2001 by Lauren Tarshis 9/11: I Survived the Battle of Gettysburg, 1863 by Lauren Tarshis 9/18: I Survived the Japanese Tsunami, 2011 by Lauren Tarshis 9/25: I Survived the Great Chicago Fire, 1871 by Lauren Tarshis 10/02: I Survived the Joplin Tornado, 2011 by Lauren Tarshis 10/09: I Survived the Children's Blizzard, 1888 by Lauren Tarshis 10/16: I Survived the Nazi Invasion, 1944 by Lauren Tarshis 10/23: I Survived the Destruction of Pompeii, 79 A.D. by Lauren Tarshis 10/30: I Survived the Wellington Avalanche, 1909 by Lauren Tarshis 11/06: I Survived the Hindenburg Disaster, 1937 by Lauren Tarshis 11/13: I Survived the Eruption of Mount St. Helens, 1980 by Lauren Tarshis 11/20: I Survived the American Revolution, 1776 by Lauren Tarshis 12/04: I Survived the Attack of the Grizzlies, 1967 by Lauren Tarshis
