2-4 horas por semana. Students will be required to read the assigned chapters before class, approximately 100-150 pages. This looks like a lot of pages, but your student will devour this book! The text moves faster than you might expect. If your child likes to read, they will not have any trouble keeping up with the reading assignments.Experiencia de clase

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the sixth installment of a series full of wonder, magic, and adventure. In this five-week class, learners will participate in meaningful discussions and engaging activities as we read J. K. Rowling's sixth novel in the world of Harry Potter. Book clubs are an excellent way to engage reluctant readers or help enthusiastic readers dig a little deeper. Students will need their own copy of the text to complete assigned readings before attending class. Student should have already read the first five Harry Potter books before enrolling in this course. Whether your student is going through the books for the first time or is an enthusiastic fan on their third re-read, this class will be full of fun for all. We will explore the text and it's themes through discussion and a variety of engaging critical thinking activities. Class will be conducted in a casual, book club style with plenty of time for discussion. I will also read aloud important or exciting parts during class to enrich our discussion. The reading schedule will be as follows: Lesson 1: chapters 1-6 Discussion and activities will focus on tone: How has Rowling's style changed in this book? How are the writing and setting different? Lesson 2: chapters 7-12 Focus on character: How does learning about Tom Riddle inform Harry about Voldemort? Lesson 3: chapters 13-18 Focus on the theme of Truth: How does Slughorn's attempt to change the past interfere with Harry's ability to cope with the present? Lesson 4: chapters 19-24 Focus on plot and predictions. Harry learns about Horcruxes. How will they shape the rest of the series? Predict: Who was the Half-Blood prince? Lesson 5: chapters 25-30 (finish book) Focus on themes developed through the story: prejudice, influence, friendship, and bravery.

The sixth installment in the Harry Potter series is, like the rest of the books, a hopeful story of good triumphing over evil. However, the plot does get more scary as Harry gets older and the challenges of each story become larger. I am passionate about building authentic positive relationships with my students. By modeling healthy relationships and creating a safe place for them to flourish, I hope to give my students life skills beyond the content I teach. I create safe, inviting spaces for kids to build relationships with other students, practicing the skills of empathy in the context of a caring community.
My husband and I have two daughters and two dogs. I love to read, bake, and knit (but not all at the same time!). I can't wait to see you in class!
