Experiencia de clase

"Esperanza Rising", by Pam Munoz Ryan, is a wonderful book for students to read. This book is on the list of "Best Books for Middle Schoolers to Read". It is also an AR book! Esperanza is a girl who experiences great life changes, and has to rise above them and gain courage and perseverance. This book also provides for research into the Mexican Revolution, migrant workers, and the Great Depression.

There are opportunities to include your own artwork, learn some basic Spanish, and write as we read. It is a wonderful book to discuss.

This will be a book club of sorts, using discussion, reading strategies, and writing as we learn to keep a reading log and to annotate.

The students will read a set number of pages in between sessions, then join me for great discussions. I love this book, so my enthusiasm carries over into our time together.

Day one: Reading strategies, previewing the book, making predictions, Students read pp. 1-85 before day 2
Day two: Discussion, writing prompts pp. 1-85. Homework: Students read pp. 85-178
Day three: Discussion, writing prompts pp. 85-178. Students read pp. 179-253
Day four: Discussion, final writing prompts
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn reading strategies such as annotating, margin notes, and keeping a reading log. These skills help the students remember what they read, as well as making connections to what they read. We will also include artwork in our reading logs! Students will also learn strategies for writing and making connections as they read. These are important skills for continuing on into high school and college (I teach reading and writing in college!).

Hello!!. My name is Mrs. Beth Lanthier.

I taught elementary school (grades 2-8) for twenty years. My Master's Degree is in Reading and Language Arts - and that is my passion. My favorite moments are when kids who don't like to write, begin to love it!

In the fall, I teach reading, writing, grammar, and College Success Skills to college students

Teaching is my passion, and my philosophy is that the influence of a good teacher can never be erased. I hear back from former students about how I impacted their lives and how they are passing that on to their children.

I will offer classes in reading, writing, English, journaling, and bullet journaling. If you look at my available classes, I offer a lot of book clubs also.

I look forward to passing on my enthusiasm and knowledge to each and every student.
