Nature is the ultimate engineer! The field of biomimicry studies natural systems, organisms and patterns to find ways to solve humanity's problems and challenges.

The course will use 4 case studies on the latest innovations that were inspired by nature . Case studies are useful and interesting learning tools because they help in concept recall, encourage critical thinking and foster imagination. This course will also allow students to think of a potential biomimetic application on their own OR research & present a case study. So, whether you are a nature lover or a tech-enthusiast, this course has something to offer!

Week 1: Introduction to Biomimicry and Its Significance

Define biomimicry and its importance in today's world.
Discuss the history and impact of biomimetic technology
Introduce the concept of case studies as a learning tool.
Discussion: Do you see any man-made object in your immediate environment (inside or outside) that could have been inspired by nature

Week 2: Biomimicry in Robotics

Explore recent examples of biomimetic robots.
Case study 1: Boston Dynamics' robot inspired by animals' movements.
Discuss the practical applications of biomimetic robots in industries like healthcare and exploration.

Week 3: Biomimicry in Materials Science

Investigate how nature-inspired materials are revolutionizing technology.
Case study 2: Self-healing materials inspired by the human body's repair mechanisms.
Explore applications in construction, aerospace, and consumer products.

Week 4: Biomimicry in Transportation

Analyze how biomimicry is influencing the future of transportation.
Case study 3: Bullet trains inspired by kingfisher beaks.
Discuss high-speed rail and eco-friendly transportation solutions.

Week 5: Biomimicry in Energy

Examine how nature-inspired innovations are transforming the energy sector.
Case study 4: Solar panels inspired by butterfly wings.
Explore solar energy, efficiency, and sustainability.

Week 6: Student Presentations and Reflection
Student presentation ( students can present their own ideas for a biomimetic technology OR research & present another real-life example as a case study)
Reflect on the impact of biomimicry in various fields.
Discuss future trends and potential career paths in biomimicry.

Resources: Provide access to recent articles, videos, and scientific papers on biomimetic technology.
