Required reading for each class is listed above in the description. Students are expected to read the chapters assigned before each class time to the best of their ability. Students may read ahead but will not be able to comment on the events that take place in that section of the book until we reach the week designated for discussion of those chapters. The reading assigned is broken down into two reading assignments and two classes per week in order to build momentum and avoid overwhelm.Evaluación
Students will be assessed based on their participation, which includes sharing their ideas, being an active part of the discussion in a way that feels comfortable to them (which allows for them to grow and blossom in this area), as well as being respectful and kind when listening to and considering the ideas of others.Experiencia de clase

Let's read and talk about The BFG together! The BFG is a magical book! Imagine you can jump right into the story and become friends with the Big Friendly Giant... What would you say to him? What do you think it would be like to be Sophie? How might your reactions be similar to hers? How might they be different? When you join us in the BFG Book Club, this will be part of the fun! By having time to talk with other students and share your own unique ideas and experiences as they relate to the story helps to bring the story to life in a new and most exciting way! Hi! My name is Caitlin Sanders, and I love teaching. :) Kids are my favorite people and it is a joy to connect with them in teaching & learning each day.
**Starting Jan. 2nd, 2024, I'll be teaching online full-time so I won't have as many class times available. I will still make time in my schedule to teach classes on Saturday mornings and some weekday evenings as I'm able to -- so feel free to reach out with any requests! I'll be happy to try to accommodate you!**
I have a passion for storytelling and love to combine stories, nature, and writing into my thematic and engaging classes.
I believe every child has a unique perspective and a unique voice that deserves to be heard. In my classes I help students uncover this through reading stories and by supporting them in writing their own.
I also love nature and so I often incorporate nature into my classes as well. :) Nature has a magical way of helping us to connect more deeply with ourselves and with those around us.
I have a compassionate approach to teaching and learning...and, to life! This comes across in my classes as patience, a genuine caring, and a dedication to supporting each student in a way that builds their confidence and unique sense of self so they can shine and bring their truest, most authentic selves and experiences to the world.
I truly care about every child I teach. I love using music to enhance my classes, and encourage students to discover and express their own creativity.
I grew up in Iowa City, IA and currently live in Portland, OR. I have an adorable little dog I fell in love with when I went to the shelter looking for a big dog. Turns out, I was destined for this cute little ten pound guy instead! :) We enjoy training and learning new tricks, as well as peaceful, awe-inspiring walks through the woods where we have many adventures on the trail!
The following quotation by Holocaust survivor Jay Sommer was at the the heart of my mission as a public school teacher and I continue to carry it forward in everything I do:
"Inspiring students with a sense of their own worth gives them the confidence to express themselves more freely, to explore and learn through their mistakes, and to regard learning as an adventure."
It is such a joy to now bring that passion and enthusiasm to connect with students online. :)
I'd love to work with your child to inspire them with a sense of their own confidence and creativity, abundance and longevity in the world. I believe your child deserves the very best, always.
