Students writing will be evaluated for the techniques learned in class and they will be challenged to edit their stories to make them better. It is the parent's responsibility to make sure the student does their homework and hands it in in time for evaluations.Experiencia de clase

***Some classes meet 4x in a row and others 2x a week for 2 weeks! Please check the dates*** Meet the Goops! A bunch of naughty boys and girls who learn the hard way how to behave! This beginning story writing course is designed to foster a love of writing in each student whether they have difficulty writing or enjoy it. Through various Goop readings, children will hear stories and poems that will inspire and encourage their own Goop stories. Through Goop story time, discussion, and instruction, learners will come to understand story structure and write Goop stories of their own. (Parental assistance may be required outside of class time with younger students.) Learners will name and create their own Goop character with alliteration and write a funny story with a moral that will teach other kids not to be a Goop! They will also write a poem about their Goop (if time allows.) The final product will be a fun story you will treasure forever. Course Objectives: See syllabus for details *To introduce learners to beginning storytelling using the Goop manner stories as a guide and to create original stories and poems. *To introduce elements of storytelling such as setting, beginning, middle, and end * To introduce strong, descriptive writing techniques * To teach learners about good manners and behavior ** This class is designed to foster a love of storytelling, and while good writing and sentences will be addressed, that is not the emphasis or goal of this class. What is a Goop?
Through various readings of turn of the century stories and poems, students will be introduced to the Goops. The Goops are naughty little boys and girls whose bad manners get them into trouble, but they always learn not to be a Goop in the end! We will discuss manners, and students will be introduced to some vocabulary words used in the early 1900s. 45 minutos de lección en vivo en línea
Lección 2:
Strong Sentences Create Strong Stories
Students will learn about the adjective-noun-verb sentence structure and practice writing sentences. They will learn how alliterations are used in Goop story titles. An introduction to the four elements of storytelling, character, setting, problem, and conclusion will be discussed and evaluated using the Goop stories. 45 minutos de lección en vivo en línea
Lección 3:
Breathing Life into your Characters and Setting
We will review the lesson before and brainstorm their Goop characters and setting. Learners will learn about the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing) with an emphasis on prewriting and planning their stories. They'll choose a Goop name and bad manner to write about. Prepositions and how they are used in setting will be taught. They'll learn how to use the 5 senses to make their stories come alive. Lección 4:
Show, Don't Tell your Story
Students will learn how to bring their story to life with descriptive writing using the 5 senses and show, don't tell, especially when writing emotions. They will brainstorm their Goop's bad behavior and write examples using the techniques learned in class. We will also discuss the motivation behind their Goop's bad behavior and what they expect to gain from bad manners. Students should have a couple of pencils, notebook paper, and a folder or 3 ring binder. Final stories and poems will need to be typed and shared with teacher for input. Worksheets will be provided, but learners will need to be able to write or have parental help.
