Evaluación
I will offer feedback after students perform an exercise and, if needed, provide suggestions to help the student master the concept. Mistakes are a part of learning a musical instrument! So students should not worry if they play the exercise or a piece correct on the first try.

Experiencia de clase

This class picks up where Level B leaves off. Prospective students should be able to read standard notation in C position and know the names of the white keys on the piano. Students will continue to develop their sight-reading skills, play simple pieces using hands together, learn how to play legato and staccato, read and play in different time signatures and continue to develop dynamic control and phrasing.

Week One: Review final pieces from Level B. Begin Piano Adventures Level 1 Lesson Book. Discuss and identify skips and steps on the staff and play new pieces in C position.

Week Two: Discuss slurs and practice playing legato phrases. Practice skipping octaves on the piano while using the damper pedal.

Week Three: Learn to play staccato. Practice new pieces which use staccato and legato markings.

Week Four: Continue reviewing pieces which combine legato and staccato markings. Spend time reviewing music terminology and practice identifying treble and bass clef notes.

Week Five: Review material as needed, extend range beyond C 5 finger scale position and practice identifying space notes in the treble clef.

Week Six: Review earlier pieces, examine anchor C notes, explore treble C position.

Week Seven: Practice pieces in treble C position and get feedback on mini-recital pieces.

Week Eight: Review previous material, practice hand crossing and perform a mini-recital!

Lista de útiles escolares
Please note: Piano Adventures offers kindle/digital versions of the lesson book. The digital version may be a better option at this time since shipping times may be significantly delayed.

Students should have:
Piano Adventures LESSON BOOK LEVEL 1 (pink/red cover) 2nd Edition 9781616770785 (Pink/red cover) https://pianoadventures.com/publications/piano-adventures-level-1-lesson-book-2nd-edition/

Students should have access to a piano or keyboard for the course. A keyboard that has at least 76 keys and allows for dynamic expression (sometimes call weighted or graded keys or touch response) is preferred.

It is helpful for students to have a phone/tablet holder or stand so I can see their hands while playing the piano.
