Let's be silly :)!  The main focus for this class is for students to have fun writing a silly sentence, to brainstorm ideas with others, to transfer ideas to paper, to boost confidence in writing, and to share silly sentences with others.  Students do not need to be fluent writers or spellers for this class.  Sentence starters will be provided for students who need them.

5-10 minutes- Shared Writing- In shared writing, the teacher and students compose a sentence together.  I will write a silly sentence with brainstorming and the shared ideas from students.

5 minutes- Mini lesson- During this time I will teach a quick writing lesson using the sentence that we have composed together.  This lesson will vary each week and will focus on the skills listed below.

10-15 minutes- Writing- Each learner will write a silly sentence of their own.  Students will be given the opportunity to write about whatever their heart desires :).  During this time, students will be able to talk about what they are writing about and brainstorm/share their ideas with others.  Topic ideas/sentence starters will be shared with students who are having trouble coming up with ideas on their own.

5-10 minutes- Share Time- Each child will be given the opportunity to share their sentence with the group (but are not required to).

This class will be different EVERY time, so you are welcome to join as many times as you'd like!  The skills may be repeated but the sentences that we write together will never be the same :)!

Week 1- Proper finger spacing and handwriting
Week 2- Upper-case and lower-case letters + the emphasis of using all capital letters for certain words
Week 3- Proper punctuation
Week 4- Adding VERBS to our silly sentence
Week 5- Adding ADVERBS to our silly sentence
Week 6- Adding ADJECTIVES to our silly sentence
Week 7- Alliteration (the technique of using words that begin with the same letter)
