Have you ever wanted to draw a picture of yourself, but you didn't know where to start? Drawing a self-portrait can be difficult, but this class will make it a piece of cake! Each student will learn the basic proportions of facial structure, and then they will learn to identify and draw the shapes of their own unique facial features. Of course, every face is different, and so perfection is not required! But, after this lesson, students will have a basic understanding that they can use to further their skills. Each student needs a mirror, pencil, eraser, a ruler or straight edge, a small bowl or circular object that will fit in the top half of their paper, and preferably sketching paper. (Any blank paper can be used if sketching paper is not available.) I will be demonstrating the techniques with my students and working right along with them! I am a self-taught professional artist, specializing in oil portrait paintings. I believe that art is about self expression and learning, and I hope to create a fun, interactive environment where students can develop a love for art while building their confidence in a new skill.

I am a professional artist, specializing in oil portrait paintings, and I have had the privilege of displaying my artwork in venues across the country. I believe that art is about self expression and learning, and I hope to create a fun, interactive environment where students can develop a love for art while building their confidence in a new skill.
I have always struggled with expecting “perfection” of myself, especially in my art, so I am constantly reminding my students, as well as myself, that perfection is not required, and that practice, not unreasonable expectations, is what a advances our skills.
My joy in teaching comes from the comments of my students and their parents, expressing that they created something they didn’t know was possible.
