Experiencia de clase

Welcome aspiring musicians! I am so excited that your learner has interest in learning to play the ukulele!

This beginner course is for students who have no prior ukulele experience. During the class, students will learn the basics of playing the ukulele! They will learn how to strum and play the C-major chord! Learning to play an instrument is not just about the instrument! This age is the perfect time to practice skills that will help to ensure success with playing the ukulele or another musical instrument! Students will practice skills such as counting, singing to fine tune their musical ear, identifying the fingers they will use to play the ukulele as well as right versus left. We will also be practicing life-skills such as turn-taking and being respectful of others. If your student is well beyond these basic skills, please take a look at my elementary level course.

Here is a general run-down of the class!

1) Hello and introduction - with song of course!
2) Let's get ready to play - the parts of a ukulele
3) Right and left with song
3) Holding the ukulele
4) Learn to strum
5) Sing a strumming song
6) My fingers and the ukulele strings
7) Introduce C-major chord
8) C-major game

Following class, students will be given access to a video that they can continue to practice with!

Parents: Before class begins, you will be given access to two tutorials. The first will explain how to place dot stickers onto the fingerboard of the ukulele. These will help ensure success for young learners. The second will explain how to tune a ukulele. Your child’s ukulele should be tuned and ready before class. If you still have questions after going through the tutorials, PLEASE message me - I’m happy to help! I believe we will have the most positive class experience if we are all ready to play!

Orientación para padres
Ukuleles need to be ready for class. They should be tuned, and dot stickers should be applied. Please refer to the instructional tutorials available upon enrollment! If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out. That is why I'm here! It is optional, but highly suggested that an adult be present in the room, off camera, to assist when necessary. Teaching an instrument virtually comes with some constraints, and sometimes the helping hand of an adult is needed to point something out.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students are required to have a ukulele for class. It must be in working order and in tune. If you need assistance in purchasing a ukulele, please feel free to message me. If you are purchasing on Amazon, please look at the reviews carefully. The ukulele must be of good quality.
Here are some recommendations

In truth, the brand/quality of the ukulele is not super important for beginners. What IS important are the strings. Any ukulele with Aquila Nylgut strings will be fine! What we want to stay away from is a ukulele with regular plastic strings - these will give you that distinct "toy" sound.

A tutorial on how to tune your ukulele for class will be available after you sign up! Please come to class with the ukulele ready for your child to play. Students will not be expected to tune the instruments on their own. You may choose to use an inexpensive clip on tuner that can be purchased on Amazon ---> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H74YXNQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 The other options are a tuning app such as Pano Tuner, available for iOs and Android, or if you have some musical experience, you may tune by ear to a piano or other source.

Please apply small stickers or pieces of tape to the fingerboard of your instrument. This is my recommendation --> https://tinyurl.com/y8of4wnm
We will be applying these to the fingerboard of the ukulele. If you are unable to find dot stickers, anything that sticks will do, as long as it fits between the frets.
