*This class is also offered in a simplified one-time class and in a five week flex class. This section is for ages around 9 to 12 years old. Taking this four-week class is a perfect way to get a taste of the sport of agility and the training required. All of the exercises require no equipment, or equipment you can easily find at home (ex: small plastic lid, jump made from broomstick, cone or other object). These exercises are beneficial for anyone wanting to start doing agility, or for anyone who wants to spend more time and strengthen the bond with their dog. In addition to the many exercises that the students will learn and practice with their dog, they will also be introduced to the sport of dog agility, benefits of training your dog, and proper training methods. The exercises in this class are fun, simple, and useful in our day-to-day lives. For example, an exercise that we will work on weekly in this class will be the "sit stay" command. We will progress your dog's "sit stay" by doing fun exercises and challenges. "Sit stays" are crucial to the sport of agility, and is incredibly useful in real life too. Other exercises and tricks include collar grabs, hand/target touches, right/left spins, box work, acceleration/deceleration games, taking jumps, and circle work. Each of these will be explained in its most simple sense, followed by ways to further challenge and improve your dog. Most importantly, our goal is to have fun and bond with your dog! The exercises will either be taught live or by videos. Short in-class training sessions will be provided after each new exercise, if time allows. Each week, the students will be encouraged to post videos of their progress (1-2 minutes each). I will review the videos and give feedback. Discussions and questions will be encouraged. Here is an approximate schedule for the class. It is always subject to change depending on how much we get done each week, and how the students progress. An adult should be around during dog training to supervise. This keeps the student and the dog safe.
Lista de útiles escolares
- A dog! Age doesn’t matter. A dog can always learn new things. - Yummy treats! I typically use high-value treats like cheese, hot dogs, freeze-dried meats, cooked chicken, etc. - Their favorite toy(s). - A box, about the size of the dog. - A jump. It could made out of a broomstick, or in my case, a hockey stick! - A leash (optional). 6 feet is typical. - A fun positive attitude! Dogs can sometimes be frustrating to work with. This makes success even more rewarding in the end!
