***THIS IS A FLEX CLASS - We will not meet live. Videos on the lesson will be posted Sunday night and Wednesday morning and learners will have the week to watch them and complete the assignments that are due by Friday night.***

Let's become better writers!  "Be You and Become a Better Writer" classes are designed to help learners improve their writing and express their individuality with the support and guidance of a K-12 certified English teacher.  

In this 4-week FLEX class, we will go through each step of the writing process for writing a creative narrative story catering to each learner's interests (Be You!). 
This class is originally designed to be completed in 8 weeks. This 4-week class is content-heavy and moves quickly. This class is designed for learners who would rather complete more work in half the time.*

Each week there will be a video lesson that will explain the week's assignments and how to complete the part of the writing process we are focusing on that week. Learners will have mini assignments to complete that will help support the part of the story they are working on. Mini assignments will include discussion boards with previous and current learners as well as a focus on the skills being taught that week. They will complete a portion of their story each week to submit and receive video feedback from me. Part A will be posted on Sunday evening, and part B will be posted Wednesday. Learners will submit work by Friday evening and receive feedback by Sunday evening of each week. 

Week 1: Types of Writing, Story Plot, & Story Beginnings  
A. Learners will be introduced to the different types of writing and begin brainstorming ideas for their narrative writing story. They will learn about the parts of a story and create a story plot of the events in their story. 
B. Learners will learn how to write an entertaining beginning that draws the reader in. They will create a beginning for their story.

Week 2: Descriptive Detail & Building Suspense 
A. Learners will learn how to use descriptive detail in their writing to allow the reader to experience what the characters are experiencing. They will create a descriptive paragraph for a character, setting, or object in their story.  
B. Learners will learn how to build suspense in their writing to keep the reader engaged. They will write a paragraph using suspense-building techniques for their story. 

Week 3: Establishing a Main Event & Story Endings 
A. Learners will learn how to incorporate description, dialogue, thoughts, and feelings into their writing and "show" instead of "tell." Learners will use these skills to write about the main event in their story. 
B. Learners will learn how to create strong endings that leave the reader satisfied with their story. They will write a paragraph to use as the end of their story.

Week 4: Revising and Editing & Story Presentation 
A. Learners will learn how to properly revise and edit practice passages. Learners will use this week to complete their rough drafts, adding any parts of their story not yet covered if needed. They will learn how to properly revise and edit their stories and submit their draft by the end of the week.
B. Learners will create a storybook for their story with pictures using a book creator program, which will be viewable to their peers who have also taken the class. These books can be printed into hard copies or shared digitally with family and friends if desired.
Each learner will receive a certificate of completion upon completing the final draft and storybook.
