Unlock the magic of stage lighting with our comprehensive 8-week class, "Basics of Theatrical Lighting Design for Teens." This course offers aspiring theater professionals an in-depth exploration of lighting design, from fundamental principles to practical applications. Students will gain a solid understanding of lighting design, including the behavior and perception of light, the objectives of lighting, and the practical aspects of lighting a stage. Each week focuses on a specific aspect of lighting design, building on the knowledge and skills learned in previous weeks. The class includes interactive lectures, practical exercises, and hands-on projects to reinforce learning. Classes will be conducted through engaging video sessions, interactive discussions, and practical assignments. Students will have the opportunity to design their own lighting projects, receive feedback, and collaborate with peers. By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of theatrical lighting design and be prepared to apply their skills in real-world theater productions.

Jeffrey Salzberg is a lighting designer who worked in theater, opera, and dance off-broadway. This textbook is a fully digital textbook on lighting for students.

Students are not required to use this, but as a lighting designer I use this resource all the time to practice and learn more about lighting design, and I highly suggest it to anyone taking this class as ETC is one of the biggest leaders in lighting technology.

Yoshi's expertise spans a wide range of productions, from community theater to collegiate and high school productions. Notable credits include serving as Projections Operator for Alice By Heart, Stage Manager and Sound Operator for Plano, and Sound/Light Operator and A2 for Spongebob The Musical.
Currently studying at Rutgers University, Yoshi has the privilege of learning from distinguished faculty, including Tony Award-winning lighting designer Don Holder. This academic environment enriches her skills and understanding of the art form, helping her to be able to teach the next generation of lighting designers the dynamic world of theater.
