In this course, student swill learn about writing a research paper. By the end of the course, they will have completed a simple research project of their choice. Week #1: I will present a few videos that show examples of research projects and research writing. I will show the students a poster that articulates the different components of a research project. Students will be exposed to examples of proper word and phrase choice for a research paper. Week #2: Students will be given a few graphic organizers to follow along with a collaborative research paper example. As a class, we will review resources I've pulled for a research topic. We will discuss what makes a good source. I will show examples of good and bad sources. Students will vote on whether they think the source is good or bad and we will discuss why. I will provide instructional videos and visual aids. Students will be asked to think about what kind of resources they will find for their concept. - They will also be asked to begin narrowing down on their own research topic (students will prepare a research project of their own by the end of the class about any topic). Week #3: Students will use a second graphic organizer to record their thoughts on the class research topic. They will chose some of the approved sources I provided to read or watch, then write a few key facts from those sources on the graphic organizer. We will discuss what makes a fact "key" or important. We will review what kind of information should make it into the research project. I will present examples to the class and provide videos with more information. Throughout the week, I will post random facts about the class research topic and ask students to comment whether they think those facts are worthy of being put into the research project or not. - Students will be given a third graphic organizer in the middle of the week that they will use to conduct their own research project. Students will be asked to post their topic in the comments along with how they will be presenting their project (power-point presentation, video, essay...). Week #4: Students will spend this week working on their research project. Once they have completed their graphic organizer, they will be asked to submit it to me. I will ask for permission to post the graphic organizer to the classroom for some peer feedback. Classmates will evaluate the posted graphic organizer and provide advice to the student. -By the end of the week, students should submit their research project.
