Welcome, young animal lovers! In this daily animal science class for kids, we will explore a new animal each day. Our class discussions will focus on different aspects of each animal, including habitat, diet, movement, family groups, and animal babies. The topics we discuss will be shaped by learner interest, making each class personalized and engaging.

I keep the class accessible to young learners while introducing important biology concepts and related vocabulary in a fun and interactive way. As we chat, I’ll share images of the animal to spark curiosity, and I invite learners to express their creativity through drawing. This is not a guided drawing session but a chance for students to use their observational skills and imagination to create their own artwork inspired by the animal we’re learning about.

At the end of our class time, we'll play a simple game to review the knowledge gained in class. Anyone who would like to share their drawing at the end of class is welcome to.

This is a conversational class, where learners are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas. However, I respect different learning styles, and no learner is required to speak or draw. If your child prefers to listen and observe, that’s perfectly okay!

This class is a fun and engaging daily science and nature exploration, perfect for any child who loves animals and wants to expand their knowledge in a relaxed, enjoyable setting. I look forward to meeting your young animal enthusiast in class!

The topics you can expect are provided below. Topics may change depending on learner input - I am happy to teach the animals that your learner is most interested in (I will generally include requests in the week after they are suggested).

Hello Families!

My name is Jennifer and I taught my first class for Outschool in March, 2021. From that first class to the present, I have been so happy to teach such diverse, curious, imaginative, and AMAZING learners! I look forward to working with all of the learners who enroll in my classes.

When I am not teaching on Outschool, I homeschool my four busy children! In our home, we are crazy about science, nature, animals, Pokemon, Minecraft, playing board games and more! My kids also love connecting with other learners in a variety of Outschool classes. I come to homeschooling from a professional teaching background, and I have classroom experience in all elementary grades. Most of my experience came in middle grade math and science, and I love math and science still! I have a Bachelor of Education degree, with qualifications for both elementary and high school, and teachable subjects in math and science. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, with a psychology minor (with a focus on children’s psychology). The last 15 years of my life have been all about teaching - in the classroom, online, and in our homeschool!

As well as classroom teaching, I have tutored math (grades 5- adult), volunteered as a storyteller with the local library, been a Girl Guides Leader, taught Junior Achievement classes, and worked as a nanny and a babysitter. Our family is involved in a homeschool co-op where I have shared in teaching many homeschooled kids.

One of my favourite discoveries about homeschooling has been how exciting it is for ME to learn new things right along with my children! I love to follow my children’s interests, and so over the years I have learned about harbour seals, baseball history, cardboard engineering, bridges, ancient Egypt, ornithology and so much more! You can expect to see a wide range of interests reflected in my Outschool course offerings. I also love to hear suggestions from learners - so let me know your class ideas! I love to learn! And I love to teach others what I have learned!

When I am not homeschooling or teaching here on Outschool, you can probably find me reading! I also enjoy hiking, playing board games, and baking. I am so grateful to get the chance to work with many wonderful families through Outschool and I can’t wait to meet you and share my love of learning!
