Students will learn about several scientific factors that make rock candy so tasty while trying their hand at making some! This class will be divided into two classes to allow the sugar crystals time to grow. In our first class, we will discuss nucleation sites and how they pertain to sugar crystals. We will discuss crystallization and saturation rates. We will make our sugar syrup together. Students will be guided step by step through this process. The use of a stove top is required. Younger learners may require supervision. During our second class, we will remove our sugar crystals from their jars and prepare them to eat. We will examine more closely the process of crystallization with the final product. Students will fill out a brief lab report/review to go over what we learned. Then, the last, and best step- we will taste test!

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello! I enjoy teaching literature classes that make learning the greats fun and interesting. I love teaching Shakespeare and creative writing. I also enjoy home-based science classes. I have been in education for years. I began teaching early childhood education in the school system in San Diego. I moved on to teach middle grade children. Most recently, I worked as a Children's Director and oversaw the entire K-5th program. I have also taught in many home school co-ops, where I worked with al age groups. I have a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in British literature. I believe that kids learn thru all different types of media. It is important to remember that not every child learns the same way. By making education fun and engaging, kids will be excited to learn! When I am not spending time with my own two kiddos hiking or swimming, I am usually playing my cello or walking my Irish wolfhound. He is as big as a small pony!
