During this 30 minute class, students will learn how making a mistake in our art provides a perfect opportunities to use our creativity. We can actually learn much more when things go wrong than when they go right! We will also learn about Japanese Kintsugi - where broken pottery is repaired using gold paint to celebrate the cracks - not hide the damage. Students will be able to apply this positive thinking to their own work begin to develop resilience in the face of challenges. For this class, students will need 5/6 sheets of plain paper, a pen or pencil and coloured pens/pencils. (A gold pen, pencil or crayon can be a nice touch but not necessary). The lesson will start with a quick discussion about how we feel when something goes "wrong" in our art. Simple exercises and demonstrations will then explain how we can overcome mistakes in a fun and engaging way that makes it easy to understand. Students will have opportunities to talk about their work and show it to the group, if they would like to. All Arty Thinking classes focus on promoting a growth mindset and creative confidence in children. Activities and games are designed carefully to allow all students to feel included, experience success and express themselves. There are no wrong answers!
