Imagine an art lesson that combines the thoughtfulness of Mr. Rogers and the creative playfulness of a tutorial with Bob Ross. In Art Club, we don't just learn painting and drawing techniques; we build friendships and explore how art can help us regulate our emotions and learn more about the world around us. Each class begins with a time to "check in": students are encouraged to share something that they have created recently or something that they are excited about! Then we will spend a couple minutes on a warm up and/or introducing the topic of the day. Then it is time to create a work of art! Topics include but are not limited to: music and abstract art, regulating emotions, nature, current events, drawing and watercolor techniques, artists from around the world, and more. Finally, we will spend a few minutes at the end of class for students to share their work and reflect on the lesson. I will guide students through the art-making process, noting different techniques as we use them and giving cues for where students can build upon those techniques or branch out on their own if they wish to. To quote the esteemed Bob Ross, "in art there are no mistakes, just happy accidents!" This season's topics: Nov 27th: Aurora Borealis; paint a magical winter landscape of the northern lights using watercolor Dec 4th: Hibernating Bear Dec 11th: Winter Abstract Painting Dec 18th: Snowman + snow texture study Dec 25th: NO CLASS Jan 1st: NO CLASS Beginners are welcome, no prior experience needed. Each week is something new. We always have fun :-) Click the video to see examples! Water you waiting for?? Grab that Monet and let's Gogh! 💛🎨Lauren

Lista de útiles escolares
This supply list includes recommendations and brands I like, as well as everyday objects you can find around the house. I believe in using what you've got - no need to break the bank! 🎨WATERCOLOR PAINT SET with red, yellow, blue, black, and white (more colors are fine too): I recommend a paint palette, higher quality paint that comes in tubes can get extra messy and it's more difficult to measure out an appropriate amount. Plus you've got a built in palette for mixing colors. You can also use a Tupperware lid or plate for mixing paint. >>> https://www.amazon.com/Prang-Watercolor-Assorted-Refillable-16000/dp/B001E6EUS2/ 🖌WATERCOLOR PAINT BRUSH: I recommend round tips ones, they're great for both wide brush strokes and fine lines. Sizes #2-10 will work great, nothing smaller or larger is necessary. >>>https://www.amazon.com/Watercolor-Brushes-Different-Watercolors-Acrylics/dp/B0838TZKF1 📃WATERCOLOR PAPER: 8x10 is a good size, nothing larger than 11x14 >>>https://www.jerrysartarama.com/canson-xl-watercolor-pads 🌈ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: - pencil - cup for water - paper towel - circular object such as a cup, bowl, etc. - painters tape (for taping down paper) - crayons - salt - table that can get messy - safe, flat area for drying artwork

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have been painting since I was a wee little lass. When not painting, I work as a graphic designer for my local town, fighting bad design and comic sans monsters (a.ka., designing digital and print material for cultural arts programs and exhibitions), and before my superhero work as a graphic designer, I was an educator at a children's science museum working with a team of expert scientists and educators to teach everything from astronomy to wildlife conservation.
