This class is geared toward students who already have the ability to draw their own animals (they will get to choose their animal), as the guided instruction will be around how to blend the paint for the background and how to apply the drawing and painting materials for drawing the animals. Because the students will have the freedom to choose their own animals, there obviously won't be time in class for me to do a guided drawing of each individual animal. My teaching style involves breaking the process down into smaller, easy-to-follow steps. I pace the class according to the needs of the students; if needed, I give fast finishers a break, allowing students who need more time to complete their work, the time to do so, and even then, finishing before class ends is NOT the objective. The examples in the picture are only suggestive; students may also request a particular favorite if time allows. My classes are intended to be fun, informative, and a safe place to take artistic risks and make mistakes--that is experimentation, which artists do all the time! At the end of class, students will be invited to share their creations no matter what their progress is. More detailed information regarding this class can be found in the syllabus. **PLEASE NOTE** Some students work faster and will complete their art early. Hopefully they can come prepared to either make more or at least draw other animals if this is the case. AFTER THE FINAL SESSION: It is highly recommended that the painting be sprayed with hairspray (Aquanet works well!) or acrylic sealer to prevent the chalk from accidental smearing. Additional layers of chalk may need to be built up and re-sprayed. My teaching style involves breaking the process down into smaller, easy-to-follow steps. As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
