Surrealist art depicts various unrelated elements put together in any order, depending upon the artist’s view. Salvadore Dali is perhaps most well known for his surrealist art. Dali’s most famous work, ‘The Persistence of Memory’. Dali’s work had no boundaries – it conformed to nothing and could be anything. That is why Dali is a great inspiration for young kids, especially the ones who want to color outside the lines! The class is structured with a brief overview of 20 -30 minutes about the Surrealist art movement and how it came to be i.e. Dadaism will be discussed. This is a time for learners to ask questions to gain a better understanding of the second half of the class where they will be creating their own Surreal piece of art using whatever medium they choose ( I am suggesting markers and crayons.) My teaching style is presenting art facts, showing examples, modeling the project as we go along with encouragement.

Handouts will be uploaded before the class for learners to optionally further study Surrealism and Salvadore Dali's Timeline. In my art appreciation classes, learners are encouraged to use whichever they are comfortable with to execute their finished pieces. Typically, learners have had great success in my classes using markers and colored pencils in their sketchbooks or white paper.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Maestría en Educación desde University of New England
Hi!
I am an art educator; artist; writer; and illustrator. I taught elementary art K-6 in public schools for 30 years. I am a professional teacher certified to teach art K-12 in Maine and Massachusetts. I am a serious painter, you can view my workers here: www.melindacampbell.net. I also write and illustrate children's picture books about marine conservation, climate change, diversity, and math. I live in Maine where inspiration is found just about everywhere you look.
I spent a lot of my childhood in museums and visiting historic sites which in turn nurtured my love for art as a vocation. I attended UMASS Dartmouth, earned a B.F.A. in Art Education, became an art teacher and moved to Maine for a teaching position and never left. "Worth A Visit, Worth A Lifetime," as they say in Maine! There I earned my Master of Science in Education, M.S.Ed from the University of New England. My dissertation focused on collaborative action research on how art enhances writing in early childhood education.
I should also tell you that I am a big astronomy fan and consider myself an amateur astronomer.
I'm super excited to share my learnings and knowledge about art with your children. I believe art is inclusive, diverse, and there are no right or wrong answers in creativity. Art is essential to educating the whole child and can be integrated across the curriculum.
Let's have some learning fun exploring the wonderful world of art!
Sincerely,
Melinda C.
