This review course offers 8 classes that will each be 1.5 hours in length, totaling 12 live instructional hours. AP Biologists can sign up for the entire course or choose to pay weekly. Partial refunds are available if learners are unable to attend the entire course and will be pro-rated via the Outschool platform based on the number of sessions the learner has attended. These sessions work great as refreshers before a class exam or the AP Biology test! This course can also be a useful prep...
8 lessons//2 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Chemistry of LifeStudents will learn about the four main classes of biological macromolecules, water and its role in living organisms, carbon, functional groups, and chemical bonding and properties.Lesson 2Cell Structure and FunctionStudents will learn about prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, cell organelles and their functions, the plasma membrane structure and transport across the membrane.Lesson 3Cellular EnergeticsStudents will learn about the basic properties of energy and the various forms biological organisms use it in, enzymes and their roles in metabolic reactions, the process of photosynthesis, the process of glycolysis, the process of cellular respiration, and the process of fermentation.Lesson 4Cell Communication and the Cell CycleStudents will learn about cell signaling and signal transduction pathways, how cells maintain homeostasis, positive and negative feedback, take a more detailed look at the events of interphase and mitosis, and learn about how the cell cycle is regulated.Week 2Lesson 5HeredityStudents will take a more detailed look at the events of meiosis, learn about genes and alleles, Mendel's experiments and laws, non-Mendelian genetics, X-linked inheritance, Punnett squares, and pedigrees.Lesson 6Gene Expression and RegulationStudents will study the structure of DNA and RNA in detail, learn the steps of DNA replication, transcription, and translation, and learn how gene expression is regulated and how mutations occur.Lesson 7Natural SelectionStudents will learn about Darwin's theory of evolution, as well as other mechanisms of evolution, natural selection, the evidence of evolution that helped form current theories, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, and how new species occur and how others go extinct.Lesson 8EcologyStudents will learn about basic animal behavior and communication, species interactions, the formation of ecological niches, community structure and biodiversity, different life history strategies, how energy flows through ecosystems, population growth and regulation, and ecosystem disruptions and human impact.
- Students will review information from each of the units in the AP Biology course to prepare for the AP exam or class.
I am a current AP Biology teacher, and have also taught the counterpart to this class at the college level. I am familiar with the concepts in this course, the AP exam, and how to help students prepare for it. I also have access to the AP Classroom site and ensure that all information in the course is aligned to College Board's AP Biology class.

Frecuencia: incluidoDetalles: Learners can self-assess their progress by completing a Quizizz quiz at the end of each class. These quizzes provide learners with immediate feedback and detailed explanations of the answers.
Students need to have completed a general biology course so that they have a foundation in the basic concepts of biology. The content in this class builds upon those concepts.

During this class, YouTube videos may be utilized to help learners visualize some concepts. These videos will be screenshared by me during class time, and links can be provided to learners upon request. These videos are appropriate for high school learners and are free of profanity, sexual content, and other illicit behavior. This unit also comes with a Quizlet vocabulary flashcard deck built by me to help learners master key vocabulary. Learners will receive the password to this deck upon enrollment. To assess knowledge and help learners identify areas that they need to spend more time reviewing, classes will include a Quizizz quiz after each class. These quizzes will include AP style multiple choice exam questions to help learners practice with this format, as well as other types of questions that will test subject mastery. Students do not need to create an account to take these quizzes.
From time to time, textbooks from CK-12, LibreTexts, OpenStax, and Khan Academy may be used as resources in these classes. These sources are free to use, and no account registration is required.
