In this 6 week course, learners will explore the four main branches of Anthropology, including Cultural Anthropology, Medical Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Archaeology. During the first week, we will touch on each branch and learn an overview of the concept of Anthropology. What is Anthropology and what does it mean to be a professional Anthropologist? During weeks two through five, we will dive deep into each branch separately, learning one style of Anthropology per week. We will talk about how to conduct ethical studies and how to practice safe and effective observation styles. We will also learn how to properly dig on an archaeological site. During the final week, we will have an open, student-led discussion about the topics we have learned during the first five weeks. Students will have the opportunity to discuss their future anthropological plans and learn what it takes to be a professional archaeologist!

Learners do not need any prior knowledge of the subject and will not be required to do any homework. However, learners may want to conduct their own observations or archaeological digs after taking this class!

-Week one: Learners will be introduced to Anthropology as a whole.
-Week two: Learners will dive deep into Cultural Anthropology.
-Week three: Learners will gain a deeper understanding of Medical Anthropology
-Week four: Learners will discuss linguistic Anthropology and discover their linguistic origin.
-Week five: Learners will explore the steps it takes to discover, and date an Archaeological site!
-Week six: This week will be a student-led question/answer period. Learners who are interested in becoming a professional Anthropologist will be guided accordingly.

Hello! My name is Lara, and I am thrilled to learn, teach, and grow with Outschool learners. I have worked with students of all ages both one-on-one and in the classroom; learning everything from physics to anthropology! I love seeing that sparkle in a student's eye when he or she understands a concept for the first time. I have a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia in Anthropology with a concentration of Southeastern Native American archaeology, and a Masters degree in curriculum design and educational leadership from American Intercontinental University based out of Chicago, Illinois. I have worked both in the classroom and in the field teaching at the famous Fernbank Museum and Science Center in Atlanta, Georgia and with a very respected Georgia-based tutoring service, Visual Mathematics. I know that all students learn differently, and that is why I use a student-centered, dynamic, three-step approach for each subject. As an example, for English lessons, I begin with an auditory approach. I follow that with pictures and physical movement depicting the language used to develop a full, long-term comprehension in the student. I like to have fun in the classroom, because a student who is laughing is a student who is learning. When I'm not teaching, I raise and rescue rabbits and dogs. I love all animals, but those two are my favorites! See you in the classroom!!
