Experiencia de clase

In this 7- week online reading course, learners will read and discuss Anne of Green Gables! Anne of Green Gables is set in the late 19th century and recounts the adventures of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan girl who is sent by mistake to two middle-aged siblings, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, who had initially intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm in the fictional town of Avonlea in Prince Edward Island. Anne is a vivacious, expressive, and optimistic girl despite living an impoverished life as an orphan. Though she lacks social graces and education, she has a rich imagination, vocabulary, and an eternally optimistic and generous spirit! Because Anne acts according to her inclinations and not according to the social code of manners, she unintentionally defies expectations of "proper" behavior, sometimes to Marilla's dismay.
Learners will engage in meaningful analysis of the text, including plot, characters, settings, figurative language, point of view, and author's purpose. Discussion questions, interactive activities, and vocabulary will be posted weekly in the classroom for students. This classic novel study provides opportunities to enhance students' development of critical thinking and make inferences and connections with the text.
**Learners will play an interactive game of Kahoot to assess comprehension of the week's material covered.
Final project: Students will be given options for a creative final project due at the end of the course. Learners may also submit ideas if they would like to do something different.

Please note sensitive material: Anne mistook a bottle of currant wine for cordial, which led to Diana becoming hopelessly drunk. Anne of Green Gables includes themes related to racism, stereotypes, and inaccurate descriptions of Natives. This will be addressed by discussing that this is no longer acceptable or tolerated by most. Unfortunately, it was more accepted in the past due to ignorance and the wrong people being in positions of power or authority. Kahoot: Learners will participate in a game of Kahoot each week at their leisure. The Kahoot! Link will be posted in the classroom each week. You do not need an account to play. 1. Learner will click the link. 2. Enter a nickname or name and press go! 3. Read questions and select the correct answer or answers and click submit. Have Fun! Please let me know if you have any further questions.

As a licensed teacher specializing in Reading, I have had the opportunity to support and engage students with diverse learning needs. My experience has enabled me to develop a strong understanding of different instructional strategies to ensure that all students have the skills necessary for academic success. I am passionate about creating a positive classroom environment that is both supportive and engaging, where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas and participating in discussions. With my expertise in Reading instruction, I strive to help each student develop a lifelong love for reading while achieving academic goals.
My passion is literature. I believe stories make concepts more palpable to children. Stories can teach readers valuable lessons, make them laugh, and see things from a different perspective, or take them somewhere new!
When I have time, I like to travel, experience different cultures, and learn the history of people and places. I am also an animal lover! I have two dogs, have worked with animal rescues, and fostered cats and dogs for years.
If you are interested in a class and don't see a time that meets your needs, please send me with your time request. I look forward to meeting your learner in class!
