Let's talk about the zoo animals and the phonics sounds they make. Animals we will learn about will include: bear, flamingo, lion, monkey, penguin and seal. Other zoo word will include: zookeeper, reptile house and mouse house. This Zoo Time ABC class is a great way for students to have some A B C fun, reviewing their letter sounds, and practicing social and communication skills throughout. Students will be encouraged to bring a toy or picture of their favorite truck or construction to class. To begin students will tell us about their favorite vehicle. We will then begin our exploration of the construction site. What animal do I see....? I see a _____. Students will create a 'Construction Vehicles' poster.
Metas de aprendizaje
Throughout the lesson my focus will be to teach the key letters and the name of each zoo animal to the students. I will also support the students as they use their important social and communication skills as they share their thoughts about the animals and practice their letter sounds throughout the lesson. Students will be encouraged and supported as they participate in class. If you feel that your child may be shy or anxious about participating in class please feel free to contact me in advance and let me know.

Hello! My name is Roisin. Welcome to my classroom!
I have a both a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Education. For more than 20 years I have been a teacher and an educator. I have been a classroom teacher, a curriculum designer, a teacher trainer and an online English teacher. I have experience teaching students from PreSchool through to 9th grade, both in a regular classroom and also in a virtual classroom. For me as an educator, it has been rewarding at every level to nurture and foster early skills and equip young learners with the tools they need to inquire and question about the world around them. I love to see how these skills grow and develop, and support learners as they progress throughout the grades.
I believe that children learn when they are actively engaged in their learning, sharing their ideas and collaborating with their peers. Learning is inspired by lessons that are meaningful and relevant to students. The lessons spark their interest, nurture and develop an understanding of a 'big idea' and build essential skills. And of course fun and enjoyment in the classroom are essential ingredients too. When students are happy and engaged, those meaningful conversations and interactions happen naturally in the classroom.
Over the past few years I have learned to surf (badly). I am by no means a good surfer (in fact I'm pretty poor), but there is nothing more rewarding than finally standing upright on that board! Its good to feel the challenge of slowly mastering the various steps, before finally mastering the 'pop-up'. And nothing more humbling than seeing the little kids whizz past you as you struggle to master those skills during the process!
