In this one-time drawing course, students will learn how to sketch a realistic portrait of a crow bird (full body), using charcoal. Please note that if students do want to use charcoal, they are welcome to use pencil instead. What will students learn? 1. Students will learn techniques for sketching a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of a crow. 2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, gradient blending, and adding contrast using charcoal. 3. Students will learn techniques for drawing realistic feathers using charcoal. 4. Students will learn techniques for adding highlights to black feathers using charcoal and an eraser. 5. Students will learn a few facts about crows. I will demonstrate each step for students and have students complete that step along with me. My classroom is a calm, fun, and creative environment where discussion between teacher and students is encouraged. I ask students questions throughout the lesson to check for student understanding. Students may also interact with each other if they want to share what they have learned during class.

***Please note that while I will be using charcoal, students may opt to use pencil instead if they prefer. -Paper -Everyday pencil or drawing pencils -Everyday eraser and/or kneaded eraser -Blending tool (blending stumps, tissue, Q-tips, or you can just use your fingers if you don't have any of the previously listed supplies) -Charcoal (this could include black and white charcoal pencils, compressed charcoal sticks, or willow charcoal) -Something to wipe your hands off with (charcoal can be messy!)

✨Welcome to my teacher page! ✨
After graduating with Bachelor's Degrees in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, I decided to make the leap of starting my author and illustrator career. Since then, I have written and illustrated my first middle grade fantasy book, Brush of Magic, with many more in the works!
Along with running my own art and book shop, I design and teach a variety of drawing and painting classes, ranging from realistic sketching, watercolor painting, fantasy drawing, and illustration. I have taught for about 9 years, 4 of which have been specific to art. I love the time I get to spend with my students, creating art, and chatting about books—especially if the books and art are whimsical or magical!
All the artwork, books, and stationary designs in my shop are created by me. I often find inspiration for my art and books through reading, spending time with my cats and dogs, and brainstorming imaginary creatures in my sketchbook.
