Experiencia de clase

During this camp, students will explore the role of American women in relationship to the Presidential Election in the USA.
Students will draw a Travel Girl character wearing costumes to highlight five specific aspects of women in politics: Statue of Liberty, Suffrage Movement, First Lady, Supreme Court Justice and Voter. Students of all drawing abilities are able to enjoy this class as the Travel Girl is drawn using shapes and lines. Prior American political knowledge is not needed.

Travel Girl is a character created by Teacher MoMo. The Travel Girl travels the world and explores different culture. In each class, Travel Girl is featured in a unique cultural setting. In this drawing course, Travel Girl is the USA.

In the first part of the class, students receive an introduction to the basic facts about the presidential election and one of the five roles of women. This allows students to become familiar with women’s various relationships to the office of the president and the election process.

In the second part of the class, students will look more closely at the five roles via clothing/costume. Students will draw a representative figure of each the five roles. In addition, students will decide what other
American cultural aspect to include in the drawing, for example, 4th of July fireworks, or landmark buildings. By the end of the camp, students will have five beautiful Travel Girl drawings and know more about American women in society. As the teacher, I will guide students to create a unique drawing that reflects their personalities and curiosity about American women in politics. I will also create a basic understanding of women in political activities.

In the materials section below, you will find a pre-lesson activity for each class; students should complete the boarding pass for the Bon Voyage travel through America. Also, students will find a basic fact sheet about the presidential election and Bon Voyage Travel Girl.

Class #1 : Statue of Liberty
Class #2 : Suffrage Movement
Class #3 : First Lady
Class #4 : Supreme Court Justice
Class #5 : Voter

NOTE: This class serves to celebrate American Women. I will avoid items/topics that focus on being a Democrat or being a Republican. This class serves to be a fun and engaging place to spark curiosity about women in public service and women as fully engaged members of the American society. I have a Graduate Certificate in Gender Studies from USC and enjoy exploring the roles of women in our global community.
