Students will learn through discussion and note-taking. This class will draw heavily on student interaction and discussion. We will look at images and even take virtual tours through Google Earth as available. Week one: White House, Washington Monument, and the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Week two: Mount Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, and the Star-Spangled Banner Week three: The Liberty Bell, The Great Seal of the United States, the Bald Eagle Week four: Old Glory, the North American Bison, Student posters.

Symbols and monuments will include: the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, the White House, the Washington Monument, Mount Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, the Star-Spangled Banner, the Liberty Bell, The Great Seal of the United States, the Bald Eagle, Old Glory, and more

Several worksheets will be provided for note-taking. Students are encouraged to present a poster of am American symbol of their choice in the second class meeting. Poster board, cardboard, or some paper for the poster will be necessary. Markers can be used.
