There are some days within the camp where the students will need to cook their treats. Many of the items that we make will also need to be chilled in the refrigerator prior to eating.Experiencia de clase
Welcome to the American Girl Historical CHRISTMAS Baking Camp! This is a place where we will do some hands-on learning about different historical characters in the American Girl historical/Be Forever doll line. We will study five different dolls - one doll each day - and make a super easy dish from the time frame in which the girl lived... all with a holiday theme! Many of the dishes that we will make are straight from the books! We will talk a little about the time frame in which the girl lived, briefly talk about some of their holiday traditions and stories, and then bake our hearts out while learning! We will be studying and baking the following: Day 1 - 1904 - Samantha - Christmas Chocolate Fudge (microwavable) Day 2 - 1774/1824 - Felicity/Josefina - Felicity & Josefina's Hot Chocolate (TWO DIFFERENT TYPES!) Day 3 - 1944 - Molly - Molly's Christmas Sticky Buns Day 4 - 1934 - Kit - Christmas Morning Waffles Day 5 - 1854 - Kirsten - St. Lucia Breakfast Buns & Platter I will also be sending out an additional easy recipes for Nanea's pineapple juice and a Rebecca recipes for a special Hanukkah treat!

Potential Hazards: Students will need to use the oven, stovetop, and microwave during this baking camp.
Even though students will be studying a historical time frame, we will not always be following historical methods of baking and/or recipes. This class is geared towards a 8-13-year-old audience, but parents are always welcomed to be close by. :)

Hi there!
My name is Mrs. Rodenbeck and I am a middle school history teacher! I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th, grade history for the past 5 years! Before that, I taught high school history. I absolutely LOVE learning about people from the past! I like understanding how people lived in different times in history.
I studied anthropology in college. My goal as a kid was to be Indiana Jones! Archaeology and cultural anthropology are my favorite disciplines. I like to learn about what past peoples have built and how those things impact their culture. I’ve even done work for Chicago’s Field Museum since 2007. Now I work in the education department at the Field Museum with other teachers and bringing history topics into their classrooms.
I love teaching about the American Girl books and their periods of time in history because I used to WORK at the American Girl store in Chicago. I worked there all throughout my college years. I loved American Girl when I was a kid and I loved it, even more, when I worked at the store in college!
I love to learn all about the historical times that the different dolls lived in and I love doing hands-on learning! I can't wait to have a fun time learning with you!
